From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 272

Juliana’s nose stung, a wave of hurt washing over her from her own daughter’s cold words.

“I get it,” she said quietly.

She hadn’t even ended the call when a short man, who’d been hiding by a pillar, zeroed in on the shopping bag she was holding. His eyes lit up.

The second she hung up, still dazed from the call, he darted past, snatched the bag straight out of her hand, and bolted.

Juliana gasped. “Hey! Thief! Give that back!”

She chased after him, her voice raw and desperate. Fifteen thousand dollars might mean nothing to Jessie Goff, but for Juliana, it was everything.

She was in her fifties and completely out of breath after barely a few blocks. On the verge of tears, she tried calling Jessie again, but the call was cut off without mercy.

[Jessie Goff: Text me if you need something. I told you, no more calls!]

Juliana crouched on the sidewalk, sobbing quietly.

How did her life get this unlucky?

...

When Eleanor finished work, Max was already waiting for her in the parking garage.

“Come with me tonight,” he said.

Before she could ask, he whisked her away to a luxury mall. He’d cleared out the entire floor just for them.

“Pick something out,” Max said. “There’s a party tonight. The guys want to celebrate that I’m finally off the market.”

Eleanor knew Max’s friends were all rich and influential, so she nodded and went to choose something to wear.

She settled on a beige off-the-shoulder dress. Elegant without being showy.

When she walked out, she looked at him, a little unsure. “Is this okay?”

Max studied her, then pointed at a sparkling necklace in the display case. “Try that with it.”

The sales associate jumped into action. “Mr. Clarkson, this diamond necklace is one of a kind. You have excellent taste.”

Eleanor’s heart dropped. One of a kind was never cheap. She barely had time to protest before the associate was already fastening it around her neck.

It glittered under the lights, catching everyone’s eye.

“Perfect. We’ll take the set,” Max said.

He noticed her hesitation and smiled. “Mrs. Clarkson, don’t make me look stingy. It’s just a necklace. I can handle it.”

Eleanor gave in with a sigh. “Alright.”

There was just no arguing with him.
