From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 300

"But I can't say for sure he's husband material. Why don't you and Mr. Sidler just sit down and really talk things through?" Eleanor suggested. "Go with what feels right to you."

Yolanda looked thoughtful. "I'll think about it."

Max kept pacing around the living room, acting so restless that even the housekeeper started to notice. He'd wander into the kitchen for a minute, then drift back to the entryway, as if he was looking for something to do. The housekeeper grew a little anxious.

"Max, did I miss something while cleaning?"

He gave her a smile. "No, it's fine. You can go downstairs and take a break."

She nodded. "I made some bird's nest soup. It's simmering on the stove. If Eleanor comes home, can you let her know?"

The housekeeper was from the Clarkson estate and took her job very seriously. She took good care of both the boss and his wife, not like just any hired help.

Max nodded and sent her off. Finally, when the clock hit nine, he picked up his phone and called Linden.

"Linden, are you seriously this hopeless? You can't even get the girl. Thanks to you, my wife is still out with her best friend and hasn't come home yet!"

Linden went silent. He was one second away from cursing. When did Max get so annoying? He always knew exactly how to push his buttons.

"Wow, Max, maybe I am useless, but you're not much better. Eleanor's out with her friend, and she didn't even ask you to tag along, did she?" Linden shot back.

Max was just about to answer when Eleanor walked in. She wasn't expecting to see him on the phone in the living room. Max glanced at his phone and hung up right away.

"You're back," he said.

Eleanor nodded. "Yeah, I just got home." She glanced at the clock on the wall. Nine o'clock. Not too late, hopefully.

Max headed for the kitchen. "Go wash your hands and come to the dining room. The housekeeper made bird's nest soup for you and left me in charge of making sure you finish it."
