From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 91

By the time Eleanor arrived at the office, the verdict was already out. Simon had been fired on the spot, and the HR team would announce it to everyone on the company’s official channel. Basically, Simon’s chances of finding another job in the industry were slim to none.

Clarkson Corporation didn’t hold back. They completely shut the door on Simon’s future, making it clear to everyone in the R&D department that the labs were a place for serious work. No goofing off. Definitely no framing others for your own gain. If they let Simon off easy, who knew what would happen next time?

Honestly, Simon had brought this on himself. Robert, on the other hand, just lost five hundred bucks from his performance bonus for breaking lab rules. That seemed fair enough.

Eleanor, who had been caught up in the mess for no reason, didn’t face any punishment. Still, one thing bugged her. No one ever explained why there were two surveillance videos. Was Simon behind the edited footage too? She couldn’t say for sure, but it felt like there was more going on.

Simon left with red eyes, hugging a box with all his things. Years at the company, and it ended like this. It was pretty hard to watch.

When he walked out of the building, he tried calling Katie. He’d always had a thing for her, the unreachable Clarkson heiress. Just a few words from her, and he’d lose his sense of direction. She’d gotten him involved in the whole thing with Eleanor, and now he was the only one paying the price. Katie didn’t even answer his call.

That hurt. He had a sister who was seriously ill. Most of his salary went to her medical bills, and his savings were almost gone. Now he had no job and no idea how he’d pay for her care.

He stood there for a long time, lost in thought, until his phone rang. It was a number he didn’t recognize.

“Hello, is this Simon?”

“Yeah, who’s this?”

“I’m from the Executive Office at Clarkson Corporation. Because of your past contributions, the company will give you some financial compensation. But if anyone calls for a background check, we’ll have to be honest about why you left.”

Simon was quiet for a moment. “Thank you,” he finally said.

He checked his account later and saw the severance—enough to cover two years of his sister’s treatment. The company had gone above and beyond. He also knew, deep down, that Katie would never answer his calls again. Everyone has to face the consequences of their own actions. It was his turn now. Katie’s would come soon enough.

“Daddy, you look too old! You don’t match us at all!”

She urged him to open the wardrobe again, then stood on her tiptoes and pointed to a light blue striped shirt and white pants. “Daddy, wear these!”

Peter usually stuck to business suits to look more serious, so he hadn’t worn anything this bright in years. But he couldn’t say no to Olga.

“Alright, alright, I’ll change! Olga, stop pushing me.”

When he finally came out, Olga’s eyes lit up. “Daddy, you and Mommie Jessie look like a matching set!”

Jessie laughed, just realizing they were totally dressed like a couple.
