Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 106

“If you come across any suitable projects, let me know. I want to sort out my patent as soon as possible.”

Marguerite’s mind was still on her patent. After all, she’d poured so much of herself into it; she needed to see it through, to prove to herself she could accomplish something worthwhile.

“Don’t worry, I’ll keep it in mind. Now, eat something.” Luke stood and served her another helping, his gesture gentle and familiar.

After chatting for a while, Marguerite got ready to head home.

Luke had driven himself that day. No matter what she said, he insisted on taking her back. It was late, and he couldn’t relax if she went home alone.

Once they arrived, Marguerite stepped out of the car.

“Drive safe, Luke. Text me when you get home, okay?”

Their houses were on opposite sides of town, and it was already so late. She couldn’t help but worry, especially after he’d gone out of his way to drop her off.

Luke nodded, then started the engine and pulled away.

He knew this wasn’t Marguerite's place—it was Leonard’s house.

So, they were living together now. Things had clearly progressed between them.

The thought left him uneasy. He felt a pang of sadness as he drove off into the night.

When Marguerite went inside, she found Wilma still up, waiting for her.

“You’re home, ma’am. Is there anything you need me to do?”

“No, it’s late, Wilma. You should get some rest. I’m going to bed soon too.”

Marguerite had already eaten, and there was nothing left for the staff to do.

“No, that’s alright. You should get some rest.”

There was a chill in Leonard’s tone tonight, more distant than usual, reserved with everyone.

Marguerite had always wondered if she was just imagining things, but now she was sure—he really had changed.

“Alright then, you and Mrs. Murphy should turn in soon. Goodnight,” Wilma said, disappearing into her own room.

Now it was just the two of them in the quiet house, the air thick with awkwardness.

Marguerite wondered if Leonard minded that she’d gone out for dinner with another man. They both had their own friends, their own lives, and it wasn’t as though they spent much time together anyway.

Still, she thought, maybe she should explain.

“Luke and I have been friends for years—since college, actually. I just needed his help with my patent, so I reached out to him.”
