She paused, searching for words. “I guess I just wanted to handle this on my own for once. The reason I asked Luke is because I wanted to collaborate with him, not because I didn’t trust you.”

She could see he cared, even if he tried to hide it—his concern was unmistakable.

Leonard’s voice softened, though his possessiveness was clear. “Next time something like this comes up, come to me first. I’ll find a way to help you. I don’t want you turning to other men when you need support.”
