Laura knew herself well—she was perfectly aware of her own feelings, but the last thing she wanted was to create trouble for anyone else because of a little crush.
After all, their project had only just settled into a steady rhythm. Ms. Taylor was already dealing with a mountain of family issues back home, and Laura had been running herself ragged just trying to keep up. Now that things had finally calmed down, she was determined not to add to Marguerite’s stress with her own personal dilemmas.
“Don’t worry, Luke isn’t that kind of person,” Marguerite reassured her. “He has his own opinions and his own way of doing things. If he likes someone—if he thinks she’s right for him—he won’t care about your background at all.”
“I’m not going to say anything to him about this right now. Just spend some time together. If it turns out you’re a good match, with shared values and all, I can always fill him in later. There’s no rush.”
Truthfully, Marguerite hoped to see both Laura and her friends happy. Laura had been by her side for so long—she was a wonderful woman and a true professional.
“Thank you, Ms. Taylor.”
As the two women chatted, Luke walked in from outside.
“What are you two talking about? You look like you’re having a great time,” he said, glancing at their relaxed, cheerful faces.
“Oh, nothing much. Just catching up,” Marguerite replied lightly.
“Luke, since I have a few other projects on my plate, starting tomorrow, Laura will be your main point of contact for everything on your side,” Marguerite announced. “If there’s anything she can’t handle, she’ll bring it straight to me.”
