Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 130

She couldn’t quite make sense of her feelings right now.

Once that woman finally left their house, Marguerite and Leonard headed out as well.

As they settled into the car, Marguerite decided she needed clarity. After all, the two of them were about to get engaged—it didn’t feel right to leave things ambiguous.

“Leonard, there’s something I want to ask you,” she began, her voice careful but steady. “Who exactly is that woman who just came by? What’s your relationship with her?”

She rushed to clarify, “I’m not trying to accuse you of anything—I just want to understand, so if she comes around again, at least I know what’s going on.”

Marguerite tried to make her intentions clear. She wasn’t interested in meddling, and she trusted Leonard to handle his own affairs. Still, she couldn’t shake this uneasy feeling that had lingered since morning—a strange sense that something precious, something that should belong to her, was being taken away.

She honestly didn’t know why she felt this way.

Leonard sighed, glancing at her. “I only ever saw her as a sister. There’s nothing between us, not the way you’re thinking.”

A sister?

Marguerite remembered Benjamin saying something similar once, about how he saw Fiona Jenkins as a sister, too. She’d heard that excuse so many times before it almost made her skin crawl.

“Alright,” she replied coolly, not pressing further. If he didn’t want to talk, she wouldn’t force it. After all, it was his business, not hers.

She tried to reason with herself—if it didn’t affect their relationship, what was the point in asking so many questions?

If she were in his place, maybe she would’ve made the same choices.

But marriage shouldn’t be built on guilt alone. He couldn’t force himself to be with a woman he didn’t love—no wonder that only made the guilt worse.

Suddenly, all those hurried, anxious phone calls he used to get made sense. No wonder he’d always dropped everything to rush to her side.

“I’m sorry,” Marguerite said quietly. “I didn’t realize what you two had been through.”

She regretted asking now. Clearly, this was a wound Leonard preferred to keep hidden.

But Leonard shook his head. “I never meant to tell you all this—I didn’t want to burden you. But after today, you deserve to know.”
