Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 195

"Alright, I understand." Leonard ended the call and immediately reached for his phone again, ready to call Winifred. He had to find out what this woman was really after.

"Why don’t I go out with Grandma and the others," Marguerite offered, her voice gentle but firm. "You should go handle this yourself. If you don’t show up in person, she probably won’t even answer your call."

Marguerite had seen through Winifred’s game long ago. She just hadn’t wanted to say it out loud. It was obvious: Winifred wouldn’t agree to treatment unless Leonard came to her side himself. She always made herself out to be the victim, leaving everyone else completely at a loss.

"Leonard, what’s going on with Winifred?" Mrs. Murphy’s patience was wearing thin. "What does she really want? I told her yesterday I’d give her a sum of money if she just stayed away from our lives. So why is she still clinging to you? For heaven’s sake, settle this before you and Marguerite get engaged!"

She’d had enough. For the sake of her son, she’d kept quiet before, but now Winifred’s constant meddling—especially right before the engagement—was simply too much. Mrs. Murphy could barely hide her resentment.

"Mom, I just want to give it one more try. What if she really gets better? Then I’ll never have to deal with this again. I think we need to resolve this once and for all," Leonard replied, his voice calm but weary. He still couldn’t get past that invisible barrier in his heart—that was the root of his constant struggle.

"Alright, can’t you two stop arguing?" Grandma finally spoke up, her tone exasperated. "Is this really worth fighting about? We all know what Winifred wants. The important thing now is to solve the problem, not provoke her."

"When trouble comes, you shouldn’t always rush to extremes. Isn’t it better to sit down and talk things through? This rough patch will pass eventually."

Ever since Winifred had come into their lives, their once peaceful home had been turned upside down, nothing but chaos left in her wake.
