Everyone had been in high spirits, looking forward to a rare day out together. Opportunities like this didn’t come often.
But no one expected that, all because of this woman, the mood would sour so quickly. Suddenly, none of them felt like going out anymore.
“Leonard, I’ll take Grandma and the two moms out for a walk. You should head over to the hospital first. They probably won’t cooperate with treatment unless you’re there in person. Don’t worry about us.”
Marguerite knew she had to be the one to speak up; only then would Leonard actually go. Besides, it might help the two moms feel a little better about the situation.
Of course, she wasn’t feeling great herself. No one liked the idea of the man they loved constantly being around another woman.
But there was no helping it now. Since things had already come to this, she had to support Leonard and help him resolve the matter.
Leonard hadn’t really planned on going at first, but seeing how understanding and supportive everyone was, he realized he needed to deal with things as quickly as possible. Only then could everyone finally breathe easy.
“I’m really sorry. I know I promised to go out with you all, but now I can’t be there. As soon as I’ve handled things here, I’ll come straight to find you.”
He still felt guilty about it, and wasn’t sure how to explain any of this to them.
“It’s alright, Leonard. Marguerite can keep us company just as well,” Mrs. Taylor said gently. “We didn’t have any big plans—just wanted to get some fresh air and relax together.”
Mrs. Taylor was always understanding, and her words put Leonard at ease.
Maybe she picked up on the irritation in his tone—maybe even a hint of anger—because, after a brief pause, she hurried over and unlocked the door, dropping the act immediately.
“Leo, you’re here.”
Her face was mottled with bruises, some areas dark and swollen—a clear sign the fall had been severe. This time, it wasn’t one of her usual stunts. During therapy, her leg had simply given out and she’d gone down hard.
“You’re this badly hurt and still refusing to cooperate with the doctors? Still locking yourself in here, making a scene? Why didn’t you let anyone in?”
Leonard was furious now. His patience for this woman was worn thin. If he had any other option, he would’ve washed his hands of her long ago.
