Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 197

“Leo, I swear I’m not trying to be difficult, and I don’t want to fight the therapy. But right now, I just feel awful. I get terrified watching them. Every treatment session feels like torture—I can’t bear it anymore; it’s worse than death.”

“I kept going this long because of you. But I just can’t do it anymore. Please, can we stop with the exercises? I’ll spend the rest of my life in this wheelchair if I have to. I’d rather give up my freedom than keep suffering like this.”

She broke down, tears streaming down her face, her voice raw with emotion. It was clear she’d been through hell these past weeks.

Seeing her so fragile and distraught, Leonard’s patience had nearly worn thin, but he couldn’t bring himself to snap at her. He knew—she’d suffered enough.

For any woman, a blow like this would leave scars far deeper than the physical ones. He just didn’t have it in him to lash out at Winifred.

“Alright. No more physical therapy today,” he said gently. “Come with me. Let’s take care of those cuts on your face. I promise—they won’t hurt you.”

Leonard’s tone softened, the irritation in his voice replaced by calm reassurance. It had a soothing effect—Winifred’s sobs gradually quieted, her trembling easing in the warmth of his patience. Whenever he spoke to her like this, she couldn’t help but let her guard down and lean on him.

“Okay, Leo. I’ll listen,” she whispered.

Winifred’s heart twisted every time she thought about it. She still couldn’t accept it, not really, but what choice did she have?

“I want to keep my distance, just like you asked the other day—leave your life, leave this city. But I’ve lived here for so many years. I’m already so alone. My legs don’t work, I don’t have any friends.”

“If I had to move to some strange city now, I’d fall apart completely. Could you… could you ask her to let me be? I promise I won’t interfere in your life. I’ll make sure things between us are clear.”
