Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 209

Marguerite nodded and walked her to the door of the hospital room.

“Marguerite, please, don’t let any of this weigh on your mind,” Mrs. Taylor said, pausing to give her a reassuring look. “And don’t pay any attention to what Edith said. You’ve been with our family long enough to know exactly what she’s like.”

“We don’t need to stoop to her level. If she comes looking for trouble again, just tell me. I’ll handle it. Honestly, I refuse to believe I can’t put her in her place.”

Mrs. Taylor had always been frustrated with people like Edith. The two of them had never gotten along, right from the start. The worst part was that Edith had no real authority in the family, yet still tried to act like she ran the place.

“It’s all right, really. I’m not taking it to heart,” Marguerite replied quietly. “Actually, this whole thing was my fault today. I should have dealt with everything properly before.”

Guilt had been eating away at her for hours. She couldn’t forgive herself, and she knew the Taylor family must have been hurt by what happened—her own feelings didn’t matter, but she hated the thought of dragging anyone else into it. Still, things had spun out of her control.

“What’s done is done, Marguerite. Let’s not dwell on it or bring it up again,” Mrs. Taylor said firmly. “Go and check on Grandma. If everything’s all right, head home and get some rest. Today’s been exhausting for everyone, especially after everything that happened.”

Mrs. Murphy was clearly worn out herself. She and Marguerite had spent weeks preparing for the engagement party, hardly sleeping, and now, after all that effort, someone had managed to ruin it.

Marguerite nodded and quietly slipped back into the hospital room. Leonard was seated by his grandmother’s bedside, watching her with concern as she rested, eyes closed and breathing steady.

The hardness that usually settled over Leonard’s face was gone; he looked softer, the usual chill in his expression replaced by something gentler.

“I’m old now and can’t do much to help you anymore. From here on, you and Leonard will have to rely on yourselves.”

Her words were full of quiet wisdom and affection.

Hearing this only made Marguerite feel more guilty, her heart tightening at the thought of her grandmother suffering.

“Grandma, I—”

“There’s nothing you need to explain,” Mrs. Murphy interrupted softly. “I understand you, and I trust you completely. Now go home and get some sleep, both of you. You don’t have to keep watch over me—I’m really fine. Everyone’s worn out today.”
