Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 210

Mrs. Murphy spoke gently, her tone full of concern, not wanting to trouble them any more than she already had.

“It’s really no bother, Grandma. I don’t have anything pressing to go back to, and honestly, I’d rather stay here with you. If I left, I’d just worry about you the whole time anyway,” Marguerite replied, her voice warm and resolute. No matter what anyone said, she wouldn’t leave—she just wanted to be by her grandmother’s side.

Mrs. Murphy smiled kindly. “Well, since you both want to stay, let’s all get some rest and have a nice chat together.”

After all, today had been their engagement party. Mrs. Murphy had tried not to interfere with the young couple’s first night together, but seeing how concerned they were, insisting on staying by her side, she really had no choice but to accept their company.

Without realizing it, morning arrived.

Marguerite was still at the hospital, determined to stay with Mrs. Murphy until her grandmother was truly out of danger. Only then would she feel comfortable leaving.

“You two are always so busy with work; you really don’t have to stay here with me all the time. Go tend to your responsibilities, there are nurses and doctors here looking after me,” Mrs. Murphy said earnestly, not wanting her situation to disrupt their lives. The past few days had been chaotic enough, with so much happening at the company and now this crisis at home.

She knew the board of directors would be making a fuss, using this incident as ammunition against Leonard. Still, he’d shouldered all the pressure himself and never once complained to her.

Mrs. Murphy shook her head with a fond smile. “You two just got engaged, and now you’re spending night and day here at my bedside. Honestly, I feel terrible for keeping you from your new life together. But seeing how much you both care about me…it really touches my heart. Thank you, both of you. I’m old now, and there’s not much more I can do to help. If anything comes up, you’ll have to rely on yourselves.”

She spoke with a heavy sigh, her voice full of love and a trace of sorrow.

“Grandma, you don’t need to do anything for us. We’re the ones who should apologize, for putting you through so much and causing you to end up in the hospital,” Marguerite said, guilt weighing on her.

“This had nothing to do with you, sweetheart. Don’t blame yourself. My heart hasn’t been strong for years—aches and pains are just a part of getting old,” Mrs. Murphy replied, her voice gentle but her eyes clouded with worry. She trusted Leonard’s abilities, but she knew the challenges he faced wouldn’t be easy to overcome.
