Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 256

Now she was seriously torn, but after going back and forth in her mind, she decided it was best to be honest with him.

“Laura, I think Luke has realized you have feelings for him. He spoke to me about it earlier—very seriously. The truth is, he’s not interested in you that way. There’s someone else he already cares about.”

“I was curious, honestly. A man like him—what kind of woman could have caught his eye? But even when I pressed him, he wouldn’t tell me.”

After weighing it over and over, Marguerite chose to tell Laura the truth. Better a sharp pain now than a lingering ache.

Laura felt her heart clench, a sudden wave of pain and sadness washing over her.

“Mr. Taylor, about Mr. Zade… I understand what he means. Honestly, it should have been obvious to me from the start. I was the one chasing after him, reading too much into every little thing.”

She should have seen this coming. They were from completely different worlds; they were never a good match. Why had she been holding onto this man for so long?

And the woman in his heart was Mr. Taylor all along. Time had passed, years even, and she’d never realized it, while he had made it painfully clear.

“Laura, you’re a wonderful woman. There’s no need to rush things. I really believe you’ll find someone better suited for you—someone who will truly love and cherish you.”

“I know this probably hurts right now. I hesitated about telling you, but in the end, I figured it was kinder to be upfront, so you wouldn’t waste any more time on him.”

As soon as she set her phone down, tears began to fall. She was overwhelmed with pain, with a sorrow she couldn’t quite describe.

Why did it hurt so much, when they’d never even really had a chance? She didn’t understand it herself. He was never truly a part of her world.

On the other end, Marguerite remained worried about Laura. She knew how much Laura had invested, how sincerely she’d cared for him, only to have it end before it ever truly began.

She couldn’t help but wonder, too—why was Luke so completely uninterested in other women? Who was the person in his heart who made him so steadfast?
