Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 257

“Marguerite, why do you always get yourself tangled up in other people’s business? Matters of the heart aren’t something you can force, no matter how much you want to. You know that, right?”

Hogan had overheard enough of their earlier conversation to catch Marguerite’s intentions, and he couldn’t have been more disapproving. He didn’t want his sister meddling in this situation, and he certainly didn’t want her getting involved.

Otherwise, in the end, no one would remember all the good she’d done.

But as her brother, Hogan knew Marguerite too well. She was always like this—especially when it came to her friends, to Laura. There was no way she’d just stand by and do nothing.

“I know,” Marguerite said softly, her voice tinged with frustration. “But when I see how earnest Laura is, how much she cares, it’s hard not to feel for her.”

She spoke slowly, clearly weighed down by the whole matter. She’d been running herself ragged over this for weeks, truly hoping Laura and him would at least give it a chance. Even if it didn’t work out, at least they’d know they’d tried, and not just given up before anything could start.

“Enough. You know no one can talk you out of something once you’ve set your mind to it,” Hogan said, shaking his head. “If you want to get involved, go ahead. But from where I stand, they’re just not right for each other. They come from completely different worlds. Even if they get together, it’ll probably end in heartbreak for both of them.”

If Marguerite ever found out what Leonard was really dealing with at work, she’d be worried sick. She wouldn’t have the energy to worry about anyone else—she’d have enough trouble just keeping herself together.

Hogan trusted Leonard. That’s why he was willing to step in and help. This time, he’d decided to give Leonard the Taylor family’s biggest new project—a decision he’d made only after discussing it with their parents and getting their full support. It was clear Leonard was at his lowest point, and family should help without reservation.

On top of that, Hogan was planning to hand over all five of his own shares to Leonard to help him weather this storm. Now, the two men were sitting together, hashing out the details—figuring out how to make this project a real success.
