Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 258

As soon as Leonard sat down in the restaurant, his phone started ringing—it was someone from the office, calling to discuss work. He excused himself and stepped outside to take the call.

Marguerite couldn’t hold back any longer. “Leo, why are you really here this time? Did something happen at the company? Are you two hiding something from me? That’s why you haven’t said anything, isn’t it?”

She couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Leonard never came to their city without a good reason, and it was obvious his visit wasn’t just to see her.

He returned a few minutes later, looking composed. “Didn’t I tell you already? The two of us are collaborating on a project. It’s a big deal, and we needed to meet in person to sort things out. There’s nothing for you to worry about—if any problems come up, we’ll handle them.”

He had no intention of burdening his little sister with business troubles. Whatever came their way, he and his partner would shoulder it themselves. Honestly, even if she knew, there was little she could do to help. Telling her would only make her worry more.

“He’s been exhausted lately, working nonstop to keep the company afloat. After everything that’s happened at home, he hasn’t complained once. He’s even willing to step away from the company if it means Grandma can feel at ease.”

“I still feel like you two are keeping something from me,” Marguerite said quietly. “But if you don’t want to tell me, that’s fine. It’s probably just more company drama, anyway.”

She hadn’t always been like this. She used to be sheltered, never having to worry about these messy affairs—her family had always protected her from the ugly side of things. But now, everything was different.
