Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 259

Lately, Marguerite seemed more sensitive than ever, noticing everything that happened around her and quietly carrying those worries in her heart. She never said anything aloud, but Hogan could see the weight she bore. Watching his little sister like this made him feel uneasy. He’d always believed that finding her someone she could trust—someone she could build a future with—meant she’d be happy, that they both would.

But their engagement was barely official before a scandal erupted. Suddenly, rumors spread that Leonard wasn’t truly a member of the Murphy family. Thankfully, the elderly Mrs. Murphy still believed in his abilities and knew the kind of man he was. Still, even if she trusted him with the family business, the rest of the company wasn’t so easy to win over. Marguerite was on edge, and Hogan could tell her days weren’t as carefree as they once were.

Their family wasn’t the sort to abandon someone over a matter of bloodlines. There was simply no way they’d turn their backs on Leonard now. That wasn’t who they were. So all they could do was face the problem together, whatever the outcome might be.

“Look, I know you’re only here because you’re worried about me,” Marguerite said gently. “Mom and Dad probably made you promise to check on me, right? I get it, but you don’t need to worry. I’m really okay. Whatever happens, I’ll be right there with him.”

She hesitated, then added, “Leonard’s never been the type to burden others, and he never talks about the company’s problems. But I’m not blind—I know what’s going on.”

Right now, all Marguerite could really offer was her presence. Just being there for him was enough.

“Alright,” Hogan said, smiling to lighten the mood. “Some things won’t get fixed just because you worry about them. Focus on your own life, okay? Besides, it’s been ages since we all sat down for a proper meal together. Let’s catch up tonight—I’d love that.”

“Oh, and by the way,” he continued, “Mom and Dad are planning to travel abroad soon. I’ve already booked their tickets. They were hoping you’d come home for a few days before they leave. If you’re free, you can come back with me tonight.”

“There’s a lot I need to take care of at the office right now,” Leonard said, regret in his voice. “I’m afraid you’ll have to go with your brother first, Marguerite. Once things settle down, I’ll come and join you.”

Normally, Leonard would have dropped everything to go back with them, but this time was different. The situation at the company was just too chaotic to leave behind.

Marguerite smiled reassuringly. “Don’t worry. If you’re okay with me going back with my brother, I’ll be fine. I probably won’t be home for long anyway—Mom and Dad are leaving soon.”

Leonard nodded, grateful for her understanding. The three of them stood together, a quiet strength passing between them, ready to face whatever came next.
