Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 277

The test results came back quickly, and Mrs. Murphy was soon transferred to a regular hospital room to rest.

Her attending physician made a point of calling Leonard and his companion into the office, believing it was important to discuss Mrs. Murphy’s current condition with them face-to-face.

“She’s getting on in years now,” the doctor began gently. “Her body can’t handle too much stress anymore, and her heart is in a fragile state. There’s a real risk of cardiac arrest at any moment.”

He looked at them both, his tone serious. “You’re her closest family. You need to stay by her side as much as possible, keep watch over her, and above all—try not to upset her. I understand things are complicated at home right now, but Mrs. Murphy’s condition is precarious. Any emotional shock could be dangerous.”

After emphasizing how serious things were, the doctor pulled out Mrs. Murphy’s latest scans and explained the situation in detail, outlining the potential dangers they needed to be aware of.

“This is something you both need to take very seriously,” he said, glancing from one to the other. “You have to stay alert at all times.”

“Given her age, I really don’t recommend surgery,” he added. “She’s already had a major operation in the past, and it was extremely risky. If she were younger, surgery would be the best option for her heart. But now, I’m afraid she might not even survive the procedure.”

Leonard nodded, his face tight with worry. “We understand how serious things are. That’s why I wanted to talk to you—I was hoping you might have some ideas, something that could help her get better, even just a little.”

“Thank you, doctor. We’ll do our best,” Leonard replied, his voice thick with emotion. “But if there’s any way to get a better treatment for my grandmother, I’ll do whatever it takes. I don’t care about the cost—I just want her to be comfortable, not suffering every day.”

Money meant nothing to Leonard compared to his family’s wellbeing. Everything he did, he did for them—to make sure they could live safely and in good health. Watching his grandmother suffer like this left him feeling utterly powerless.

“The medication she’s on is the best we have,” the doctor said quietly. “There’s nothing more effective out there. But over time, her body could develop resistance or dependency, and that’s something we have to watch closely.”

He shook his head. “She’s simply too old and frail for any more invasive treatments. If you’re thinking about surgery, I urge you to reconsider. There’s a real chance she wouldn’t survive it. Please, think this through very carefully.”
