Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 283

"That's right, Mom. You're our mother. Why would we ever want to hurt you?"

"Every time we come to see you out of genuine concern, you push us away, like our goodwill means nothing to you. Do you really have to trample on our feelings like this, every single time?"

Aaron was just as confused as he was frustrated, and he didn't bother to hide it.

Mrs. Murphy's attitude always left them feeling stung, deeply hurt no matter how many times it happened.

"Enough. If it weren't for the company, would either of you even bother to visit me? Don't think I don't know exactly what you're both after."

"Leonard already spoke to me about this earlier. He wants to step down and hand the company over to you two. But I refused—because I don't think you're fit for it!"

Mrs. Murphy showed them no mercy this time. Her words were sharp, her tone unyielding.

"Mom, am I really that worthless in your eyes?" Aaron's voice was trembling, pain and indignation simmering beneath. "Honestly, it hurts to hear you say that. Why can't you trust me for once—just give me a chance with the company? I know I can handle it if you'd only let me try."

He was even more agitated now, reeling from the revelation that Leonard had been willing to step back and hand him the reins—only to have their mother shut it down.

Edith stood awkwardly by, anxiety etched across her face. Such a golden opportunity, right in front of them, and Mrs. Murphy had thrown a wrench in the works.

If Leonard hadn't been so fed up with all the fighting, there was no way he'd willingly give up the company. Clearly, their relentless efforts were paying off—so maybe it was time to push even harder.

But what could she do? She couldn't shake them off for good—they clung to her like a bad rash, popping up when she least expected it.

"Let's go," Aaron said at last, seeing no point in dragging things out. Mrs. Murphy was clearly at her limit, and he was starting to get nervous himself.

Edith, on the other hand, wasn't ready to give up so easily.

But Aaron all but dragged her out, leaving her no choice.

"Why are you in such a hurry to get us out of there?" she grumbled, struggling to keep pace. "I wasn't even finished talking to her, and we haven't gotten anything done yet!"
