When Marguerite brought up the topic, she let out a weary sigh and turned her gaze toward him. Leonard had always been steady—a man who knew how to handle things with composure. If anyone could offer a solution, it would be him.
“You really don’t need to be so anxious,” he said gently. “Everything tends to work itself out in its own way. Honestly, I think it’s best to just let things run their course between those two. There’s no need to overthink it.”
“Even if they do come clean to each other, I don’t see why it should lead to a breakup. As long as they’re honest, that’s what matters. It’s not as if anyone’s done anything wrong.”
She nodded in agreement. After all, it was the twenty-first century—why make a fuss over something so trivial? As long as the feelings between them were genuine, that was more than enough.
“If they don’t address this, it’ll just become a wedge between them,” Leonard continued, his analysis as clear-sighted as ever. “I’d say it’s better to talk things through. What happens after that depends on how he reacts.”
Marguerite realized just how thoroughly Leonard had thought it through. If she were in their shoes, she’d want the truth out in the open too. They loved each other—there was no room for secrets or hidden resentments.
She nodded again, thinking this must be why the two of them had lasted so long. At least they saw eye to eye on the things that mattered.
“Alright, let’s not dwell on these gloomy topics any longer. I have good news for you. Another one of my patents just got approved! I’m planning to take it to market, and I’ll also be setting up my new studio soon.”
“We can barely keep up with all the work ourselves these days,” she went on with a laugh. “This new project doesn’t have anyone to take it over, and I just don’t have the energy to handle everything on my own. So I’m going to hire two new people and move to a bigger studio!”
Marguerite’s career was expanding faster than she’d ever imagined. She threw herself into it with everything she had, determined to build something meaningful for herself, to put her talents to good use.
Marguerite woke up early, and the two of them shared breakfast before heading out for work together.
On the way, her phone rang suddenly.
She glanced at the screen—Hannah Austin was calling.
Marguerite’s heart skipped a beat, a flutter of nerves making her hands clumsy as she picked up the phone. She had no idea what Hannah could want.
