What mattered most now was the two of them. These days, they seemed wrapped up in their own little world, inseparable, always finding excuses to be together. Even during classes, he’d find a way to call her, just to hear her voice.
For the first time, he truly understood what real love and happiness felt like, and he had no intention of ever letting it slip away.
“Come on, let’s have a drink together,” Hogan suggested, raising his glass. “It’s only right we celebrate you two getting back together. I hope the happiness lasts. And while we’re at it, here’s to the first big step in our new project. We couldn’t have gotten this far without your hard work. You’ve been a huge help to me.”
“If it hadn’t been for you, I wouldn’t be where I am now—especially with everything going on with the Murphy family. These business partners would never have trusted me if you weren’t by my side. It’s thanks to you that they gave me a chance.”
Leonard had never been one for sweet words, but today, for once, he’d said more than usual. The truth was, he wasn’t great at expressing himself. Whether someone helped him or hurt him, he always knew it deep down, even if he rarely said so aloud.
But today felt different. He knew the only reason he’d managed to stay afloat was because of his partnership with the Taylors. Most people who still wanted to work with him did so because he held a project with their family. That was his ace in the hole right now.
“We’re family, aren’t we?” Hogan replied, shaking his head with a laugh. “You don’t need to thank me. Everything I’ve done, I’ve done for my sister. You’re my brother-in-law now, and I want you both to be happy. As long as your job is steady, she’ll be happy, and that’s all that matters to me. So, you really don’t owe me anything.”
He didn’t need to be told to cherish the woman he loved; he would have done it anyway.
“Alright, that’s enough serious talk,” Hogan said, finally breaking the tension. “It’s not often we all get to sit down for a meal together. Let’s focus on the good things for once.”
“Oh, by the way,” he added, turning to her, “Mom and Dad want to meet Hannah. Why don’t we all go home for dinner this weekend? If you’re free, come with us. It’s been ages since we had a family gathering, and you haven’t been home in forever. It’d be nice to spend some time together.”
