Ever since he arrived here, he’d felt something he hadn’t experienced in a long time—a true sense of warmth, of home. For the first time in years, someone genuinely cared about him. He felt blessed, and most of all, he could finally be with the woman he loved. No matter what happened from now on, that would be enough.
“Hannah, you and Hogan have to come over more often,” Mrs. Taylor said, her eyes twinkling with affection. “It gets so dull with just the two of us rattling around this big house all day. Your father and I are busy with our own things, but your schedules are a bit lighter—and much more flexible.”
“I really do get lonely here sometimes,” she continued, taking Hannah’s hand as if they were old friends. “I need someone to keep me company! I think we hit it off from the start, so you have to promise you’ll visit more often.”
Mrs. Taylor couldn’t help but adore the young woman in front of her. There was a brightness and kindness about Hannah that made her instantly likable.
Their family had never been the type to judge someone by their background or social standing. All that mattered was Hogan’s happiness and whether the woman he loved was right for him. That was enough.
The only reason they’d opposed Marguerite’s previous relationship so fiercely was that her old boyfriend had seemed completely unreliable. They hadn’t believed she’d ever be happy with him, which was why they’d tried so hard to keep her from making a mistake.
“Mom, now that Hannah’s here, am I not your favorite daughter anymore?” Marguerite teased, grinning as she watched her mother fuss over Hannah. “You’re switching sides way too fast! Honestly, it’s outrageous.”
Seeing her mother’s warmth toward Hannah put Marguerite at ease. She could tell her mother’s fondness was sincere, and she knew Hogan would be overjoyed.
“From now on, you’re both my daughters,” Mrs. Taylor said, her voice full of emotion. “I’ll give you all the love I have. Every time I see you both come home, happy and together, it fills my heart.”
She had waited so long for this moment—for the feeling of having her son and daughter close by again. Ever since their reconciliation, she’d hoped they’d come back, if only for a little while.
She understood that they had their own lives and responsibilities, and as a mother, she could only support her children’s dreams. She’d never demanded anything from them.
But now, seeing them both together, and knowing her son had found someone truly dependable to share his life with, Mrs. Taylor felt a profound sense of joy. Their little family finally felt complete.
