Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 342

“I know you’ve been busy with work, and everything that’s happened at home recently has been a lot to handle. It’s totally normal to feel a little overwhelmed. Besides, we’ll have plenty of chances to get together as a family in the future, so you really don’t have to worry about it. Everyone understands, truly.”

Marguerite’s mother had always been generous and understanding with Leonard. The two mothers were close friends from way back, and Mrs. Taylor treated Leonard as if he were her own son.

Now that Marguerite and Leonard were engaged, the families felt even closer—family in every sense of the word. She would never hold something like this against him.

“Hogan already left with his girlfriend,” Leonard said. “He’s got a big concert tomorrow. Maybe we should get going too. There’s still a lot to take care of at work.”

Marguerite knew this trip home had been rushed. She wished she could stay longer, but there were too many things waiting for her at the office. There was just no way around it for now.

“So soon? Can’t you stay a few more days with your mother?” Mrs. Taylor protested, reluctant to see her daughter leave. “Your father and I have just gotten back from abroad, and it’s been so dull around here. I barely had a chance to cook for you, and now you’re leaving already.”

“Mom, as soon as this busy stretch is over, I promise I’ll come back and spend some proper time with you. Don’t worry!” Marguerite squeezed her mother’s hand. She really did want to stay longer, but business at the company was piling up, and she knew Leonard had his own full plate. There was simply no way for them both to linger.

“Marguerite,” Leonard finally said, breaking the silence, “I really do have an important project I need to handle tonight, so I couldn’t stay with you at your mom’s. Still, I shouldn’t have missed the family gathering. These moments don’t come often.”

He hated to see her upset, so he wanted to explain himself and make his feelings clear.

“It’s okay, really,” Marguerite replied gently. “I know how busy you are. I’m not upset—you’re overthinking it.” The truth was, her mood had nothing to do with tonight at all.
