Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 358

Leonard, at least, seemed to genuinely care. He was always there, by her side, never giving up on her.

“Thank you, Doctor,” Marguerite said quietly, relieved that her grandmother-in-law was stable, even if only for the moment.

“It’s my job. She’s an old friend,” the doctor said with a sad smile. “But you, the family, need to take responsibility. She absolutely cannot endure any more stress. If she has another attack, not even a miracle will save her.”

His words were a stern warning, but before anyone could respond, Aaron exploded.

“Where did you find this quack, Leonard?” he snarled, turning on the doctor. “What gives you the right to talk about our family? How dare you say my mother is dying? She’s fine! Do you even know what you’re doing?”

The doctor’s grim prognosis had sent him into a rage. “I’m reporting you! And I’m moving my mother to a different hospital. This place is a joke! Her condition is your fault!”

“Aaron, stop it!” Marguerite snapped, unable to stay silent any longer. “How can you blame the doctor? Her condition has nothing to do with him. He’s done everything he can! Have you paid any attention to her health at all these past few months? She’s lying in there fighting for her life, and all you can think about is the company! Is that all that matters to you? Money? Is there not a single shred of love or decency left in you? She is like this because of you! Can’t you, for once, just let her have some peace?”

She knew it wasn’t her place, but she couldn’t stand by and watch this injustice. Mrs. Murphy had sacrificed everything for her family, and this was how they repaid her. The anger that had been simmering inside her finally boiled over. They were supposed to be a family, yet they acted like vultures circling a carcass. Could money really erase all traces of love and kinship?
