Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 366

Mrs. Murphy looked much better today. The color had returned to her cheeks, and there was a spark of life in her eyes that had been missing yesterday when even speaking seemed to take all her strength.

“We didn’t have much to do at work today, Grandma, so we left early to come see you,” Marguerite said, taking the old woman’s hand. It was cool to the touch, and a wave of sympathy washed over her. “Have you eaten? The doctor said you need to eat more to get your strength back.”

How could anyone be so cruel to such a kind, gentle woman? Marguerite would never understand what drove people like Aaron and Baron. Did they have no conscience at all?

“I had a big lunch,” Mrs. Murphy said, a genuine smile spreading across her face. “And I took all my medicine, just like the doctor ordered. You don’t need to worry.”

Seeing them so concerned warmed her heart. If only her whole family could be this harmonious, perhaps she would have recovered long ago.

Just then, the door swung open. “Mom, look who I brought to see you!”

Leonard stood frozen. He couldn’t believe Baron had brought him here—the son he’d had with the woman who had destroyed his parents’ marriage. Antony looked to be about twenty, barely an adult.

“Hah,” Mrs. Murphy scoffed, her voice sharp with bitterness. “So now that his grandmother is on her deathbed, you decide to bring him to see me? You’ve been abroad for so many years, you’d all but forgotten I exist. You’re only remembering me now because you see me like this.”

She had seen through their motives long ago. Nothing they did now could fool her. She wouldn’t be soft with them anymore. They had pushed things to this point, and she would make them understand that the countless chances she had given them were gone for good. Whatever bond they once had was broken.
