Aside from visiting her grandmother, Marguerite threw herself into her work. With two major projects approaching their deadlines, she was the only one left to manage them. She had to work overtime to ensure everything was delivered to the clients on schedule.

When she arrived at the office, she was surprised to find Laura already at her desk, preparing for the day.

“Laura, you’re back!” Marguerite exclaimed. “You didn’t tell me you were coming in. How is he? Has he been discharged?”

With everything going on, Marguerite had been too busy to check in on them.

“Ms. Taylor, things have been going well,” Laura said, a faint blush on her cheeks. “He’s had his surgery and is recovering at home now. I felt it would be… inappropriate for me to stay there with him, so I told him I had a lot of work to catch up on and came back.”

“I’ll bring him dinner after work. I want to cook for him myself. Besides,” she added, looking up earnestly, “with so much going on, I couldn’t leave you to handle everything alone. This is my job, and just because you’ve been generous doesn’t mean I should take advantage of it.”

“Ms. Taylor, do you think I should just tell him how I feel? I get the sense he already knows, but he never brings it up. Whenever I try to steer the conversation that way, he changes the subject. I just don’t know what to do anymore.”

Talking about her romantic life brought a wave of frustration over Laura, and she looked utterly lost.
