“You schemed and manipulated every step of the way, and for what? Just so you could marry into the Foster family.”
Mrs. Foster lifted her chin, her expression radiating such smug arrogance that Marguerite felt nauseated just looking at her. Like mother, like son—now Marguerite finally understood where Benjamin’s inflated sense of self came from.
She never would have guessed Mrs. Foster had hidden her true colors so well, only revealing her real nature now.
“My son is obviously besotted with you, so I won’t be the villain standing in your way. That means, Marguerite, you’d better behave yourself—and while you’re at it, help my son get his company back on its feet…”
“Are you done? If you are, then do us both a favor and shut up.”
Marguerite had reached her limit. Where did this woman get her confidence, acting like her son was some rare prize that no woman could bear to give up?
As far as Marguerite was concerned, Benjamin was nothing but a piece of sticky toffee—impossible to get rid of, and frankly, revolting.
“Laura, call security. Have this woman escorted out.”
Marguerite brushed past Mrs. Foster, heading for her office.
She didn’t expect Mrs. Foster to suddenly lunge forward and grab her arm. “You think you can just walk away? Dream on! Marguerite, you spiteful witch, you’re the reason my son lost a crucial business deal, the reason the company’s bleeding money, the reason there’s chaos in my family—and you think you can just walk out of here? Over my dead body!”
“And what does any of that have to do with me? Your son brought this on himself!” Marguerite retorted coldly, shaking off Mrs. Foster’s grip.
“You’re so fond of Benjamin’s sister, aren’t you? Well, I’m happy to let you all enjoy your perfect little family. Why bother pestering me?”
Mrs. Foster, misreading Marguerite’s words as jealousy, sneered inwardly. Of course, this woman still couldn’t let go of Benjamin—otherwise, why put on such a show?
