Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 48

Hogan’s voice was low, carrying a note of long-missed familiarity. Marguerite felt her heart grow warm, though her surprise quickly overtook the feeling. “You’re back so early? I thought you said you still had tons to take care of. Don’t tell me you dropped everything just for me?”

“There’s really no need for you to do that. I can handle things here just fine on my own, no need to rush. If you’ve got other things on your plate, just take your time and come after you’re free.”

Hogan let out a dismissive laugh, his tone careless. “You give yourself way too much credit. Why would I ever go out of my way to come back early just for you?”

He paused for effect, then added, “I just happened to have some business near your place, so I figured I’d see you while I’m at it. If you’re free, come pick me up.”

“Alright, alright, I’ll be there soon!”

Marguerite couldn’t help but smile wryly. That was so like Hogan—always pretending to be tough, but really soft-hearted underneath. Anyone who didn’t know him as well as she did might have taken offense, but she knew better. His words only made her happier.

She quickly gathered her things, changed into something more presentable, and headed out to drive to the airport.

What she didn’t expect was to bump into Benjamin there.

“I’m really going to miss you!” Fiona looked up at Benjamin with wide, pleading eyes. She was leaving the country for a couple of days on business—just two days, but she couldn’t help feeling uneasy.

She worried that the other woman might take advantage of her absence and worm her way back into Benjamin’s life.

She couldn’t let that happen.

He’d been searching for Marguerite for days, frustrated and restless. Now, out of nowhere, he ran into her at the airport. She must have come for him—what else could it be?

Benjamin’s pride swelled. She always talked a good game, but clearly, she couldn’t stay away from him.

Grinning, he hurried over—only to freeze in his tracks.

Marguerite was walking arm-in-arm with a tall man wearing a baseball cap. The man’s long legs and confident stride matched Marguerite’s perfectly. Together, they looked so naturally in sync, so effortlessly suited to one another that Benjamin felt a pang of something sharp and cold.

Jealousy flared in his chest, hot and sudden, setting his heart ablaze.
