Goodbye My Arrogant Ex novel Chapter 73

“Marguerite, why didn’t you answer my calls until now? Can’t we just talk things through like adults? It’s been days already; I thought you’d have calmed down by now.”

“I’ve booked us a table at The Regency tonight at five. I’ll be waiting for you there. I really think we need to sit down and have a proper conversation. If you’re willing, I’m ready to let the past go.”

Benjamin’s tone was much softer than before, almost disarmingly sincere.

The Regency was the hotel where they’d had their first date. Marguerite still remembered how Benjamin surprised her with ninety-nine roses and a necklace that night.

He had picked out the necklace himself, and it was beautiful—she still kept it to this day.

“There’s nothing left for us to discuss. We have no ties anymore, and from now on, I don’t want you contacting me again.”

With that, Marguerite was ready to hang up, not wanting to hear another word from him.

Benjamin’s voice suddenly sharpened with anger. “Marguerite, even if you never want to see me again, can’t we at least end things on a decent note? Why do you have to destroy me? You know exactly what’s happening at the company right now—why are you being so cruel?”

“Benjamin, you were the one who cheated, and you were the one who walked away first. I’m only treating you the same way you treated me. Why are you the one getting angry now?” Marguerite replied coolly.

Neither of them had left the other a way out, so really, they had no one to blame but themselves.

If Benjamin hadn’t done what he did, she wouldn’t have gone to such extremes. At most, they would have just split the company’s assets evenly.

But he stole her patent, and then tried every trick in the book to help Fiona with her thesis. How could she possibly forgive him?

“It’s just a patent,” Benjamin protested. “What’s the harm in letting Fiona use it? I talked to you about this before. I know you created all those patents yourself, and if you’d agreed to work with me, I would have split the profits with you fifty-fifty. You’re the one who refused.”

“And even if our relationship is over, my mother never did anything to you, did she? Because of you, she’s had another heart attack and has been in the hospital this whole time. You haven’t even visited her once. Don’t you think that’s a bit much?”
