Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 75

“Your mother stopped by a few days ago. She even brought a gift for your wife. The two of them seemed to get along quite well, and she seemed very pleased with Marguerite.”

Leonard raised his eyebrows, genuinely surprised. He hadn’t expected that.

Without hesitating, he headed straight for Marguerite’s bedroom.

When he knocked and stepped inside, Marguerite looked up, startled to see him.

“You’re back,” she said.

“Yeah. I heard my mom came to see you,” Leonard replied, his expression calm and unreadable.

“She was lovely. Treated me very kindly. You don’t need to worry,” Marguerite explained, anxious he might be concerned.

“Oh, and about those companies you suggested—I’ve already started reaching out to them over the past few days. They’re very interested in my patents, and I’ve scheduled some meetings with them soon.”

She kept searching for things to say, unable to shake the awkwardness that lingered between them. It felt as if they were two strangers, tied together by circumstance, making the whole interaction oddly uncomfortable.

Still, she believed that, in time, things might get easier.

Leonard glanced at her, then simply nodded.

“I…”

Marguerite began to speak again, but his phone rang, cutting her off.

She fell silent, instinctively pausing.

Leonard answered his phone.

“Leo, can you come over? I twisted my ankle and I can’t get up. It hurts so much…” A woman’s voice, weak and trembling, came through the line. She sounded as though she had been crying.

“You asked me to get in touch with a few companies about possible partnerships. At first, everyone was very interested in our patent, but Benjamin has been sabotaging things behind the scenes. One company just told us they’re backing out, questioning your character.”

“And now there are all these rumors going around—they’re saying you betrayed Benjamin, that you’re ungrateful, that you drove his mother into the hospital from grief. It’s gotten really ugly.”

Laura sounded flustered, clearly overwhelmed by the situation.

Marguerite didn’t need to think twice; she already knew Benjamin wasn’t acting alone. Fiona was almost certainly involved as well.

“There’s no need to panic,” Marguerite replied, calm and collected. “If those companies are willing to believe rumors, then they were never serious about working with us to begin with. They’re not the right fit for us, so there’s nothing to be upset about.”

“I’ve already lined up a meeting with another company whose ideas I really admire. I think they’d be an excellent partner. Let’s go see them together tomorrow.”

She had everything under control and spoke with quiet confidence.

As for whatever Benjamin was up to, Marguerite had no intention of letting it bother her.
