Goodbye My Arrogant Ex novel Chapter 76

He was really becoming more childish by the day. The fact that he could come up with such cheap tricks was almost laughable. Still, even if he tried to smear her reputation, she was confident that she’d never make a single mistake at work.

“But Benjamin’s gone way too far this time,” Laura fumed, unable to let it go. “He’s the one who cheated first! After everything he’s done, how can he turn around and slander you?”

“Don’t worry about it,” Marguerite replied, completely unfazed. “If he wants to play dirty, he’ll only end up hurting himself.”

She genuinely didn’t care enough to bother with Benjamin’s drama. Why waste another minute on someone so irrelevant, when she had far more important things to do at work?

A week later.

Since the day Leonard left, Marguerite hadn’t seen him again. She couldn’t help but wonder if that other woman needed him, and if he’d stayed behind to take care of her. But she kept reminding herself that, even if he had, it was none of her business. They weren’t even engaged yet—Leonard was free to see whoever he wanted.

That afternoon, the housekeeper knocked and brought in a large box. “Ma’am, Mr. Murphy had this dress sent over. He said you should wear it tonight—there’s a formal event, and he’d like you to attend with him.”

“He’ll send a car for you at seven,” she added. “You’ll go together.”

A social event? Marguerite frowned slightly. She had always avoided these sorts of gatherings. Benjamin used to invite her to all kinds of parties, but she’d refused every time, thinking they were a waste of time. Yet, for some reason, she found herself unable to say no tonight.

“I understand,” she said, surprising even herself.

After Wilma left, Marguerite opened the box. Inside was a pale pink cocktail dress with gold trim, paired with sparkling silver heels. Against her fair skin and tall frame, she looked elegant—almost regal, like a proud swan.

She hardly recognized herself in the mirror.

Not long after she finished getting ready, the driver arrived. She climbed into the car.
