A slight smirk played on Jareth’s lips, and the harshness in his expression softened. But he wasn’t going to let her off that easy.
Why should he, a scion of the Bragg Group, be waiting on his little assistant and buying her… those things?
He quickly wiped the smile from his face. Just as Niamh popped the pills into her mouth and started to drink some water, he said coolly, “The medicine was fifteen dollars. The underwear was three hundred. That other stuff was fifty. The total is three hundred and sixty-five dollars.”
“Niamh, should I deduct it all from your next paycheck, or will you pay me back now?”
“Pfft—”
The water she had just sipped sprayed out of her mouth. She stared at him, her gentle eyes slowly filling with anger.
“Is there a problem?” Jareth asked, secretly enjoying her frustration. “You took the medicine. You’re wearing the clothes. And you’re using that… other stuff. It’s only fair that you pay for it, correct?”
“Correct,” Niamh replied through gritted teeth.
“So, are you paying me now, or should I take it from your salary?”
Niamh desperately wanted to pay him on the spot, but she had less than two hundred dollars to her name. The feeling of being broke and powerless was suffocating.
“Deduct it from my salary,” she said after a moment.
“Very well.”
Jareth immediately sent a voice message to the head of finance. “Ms. Weston, remember to deduct three hundred and sixty-five dollars from Niamh’s next paycheck.”
The director replied instantly, “Yes, of course, Mr. Bragg!”
