I Owe the Tyrant Four Little Heirs novel Chapter 32

The kids were too smart for their own good. Keir, in particular, was both brilliant and sensitive; one wrong word and his feelings were hurt.

Watching the scene from the side, Lyric couldn’t hide her envy.

“Ms. Lynn, you’re so fortunate. I’m truly jealous,” she sighed, stroking the toy poodle in her lap. She might be dripping with jewels and living a life of luxury, but it was all a facade. Who could possibly understand the emptiness she felt inside?

If her daughter were still alive, she’d be around Niamh’s age now. But all those years ago, after giving birth out of wedlock, she had abandoned her child.

Every time she thought of it, the regret was so overwhelming she wanted to die. It was only as she got older that she realized money meant nothing. Living like a lonely ghost each day was a fate worse than death.

Seeing Niamh surrounded by her four children filled her with a fresh wave of self-loathing and remorse. But more than that, she felt a deep admiration for Niamh’s courage. She was raising these children all on her own, without a father in the picture.

“Lyric, you have all that jewelry that my mommy doesn’t have. I’m jealous of you, too,” Keir suddenly said.

Lyric was taken aback for a moment, then she smiled sadly.

What good were jewels? They couldn’t talk to her. Since her husband passed away, the long, silent nights had become unbearable.

Keir took Niamh’s hand, stroking the back of it as he declared confidently, “Mommy, when I grow up, I’m going to buy you jewels even bigger than the ones on Lyric’s fingers.”

Niamh laughed. “Forget about jewels, Keir. Just try to stay out of trouble.”
