I Owe the Tyrant Four Little Heirs novel Chapter 5

The HR manager, however, interjected. “Niamh left Cliffhaven University in her third year, and she was studying fashion design. Isn’t that better than a standard associate’s degree? Her resume also states that she’s fluent in four languages, all at an advanced level…”

Before she could finish, Rhoslyn cut her off. “Manager, this is a professional company. We can’t bend the rules. What would Mr. Bragg say if he found out?”

The manager paused, then gave Niamh an apologetic shrug. “I’m sorry, Ms. Lynn. I think you’re an excellent candidate, but company policy is company policy. Your education doesn’t meet the requirements.”

Niamh bit her lip. She knew if it weren’t for Rhoslyn, she would have had a chance.

Outside, Jareth was passing the conference room. The door was ajar, and he caught sight of Niamh, her expression a mixture of frustration and simmering resentment.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

“What position is HR hiring for today?” he asked Usher, who was trailing behind him.

“Receptionist, sir,” Usher replied promptly.

Jareth was silent for a moment. “Hire that idiot,” he said coolly.

“What?” Usher was taken aback. It was just a receptionist. Why would Mr. Bragg get involved?

“What’s so hard to understand? Hire the idiot and have her clean the toilets,” Jareth snapped.

She might have a pretty face, but she was as dumb as a rock. A receptionist? Not a chance.

Usher followed behind him, thinking, “What a waste. The girl was beautiful and seemed sharp enough. Why make her clean toilets? No wonder Mr. Bragg was still single at thirty. He had no idea how to treat a woman.”
