“And I’m the one who gave her the job.”
“But why her?” Blaire demanded, her face a mask of disbelief as she pointed a trembling finger at Niamh. The tip of her nail nearly grazed Niamh’s cheek.
Niamh shuffled back another two steps, wondering what she had done to deserve this.
“Why not her?” Jareth countered.
“The position at the main office has been open for you for days, but you refused to report for duty. You forced my hand, Blaire. You wanted me to fire you!” Jareth’s face was flushed red with anger.
Niamh’s heart pounded in her chest.
“Just argue amongst yourselves,” she pleaded silently. “Please don’t drag me into this. I don’t know anything.”
Suddenly, Blaire spun around to face Niamh. “We are worlds apart. Mr. Bragg and I are alumni of Sterling Ford University. And you? Where did you graduate from?”
“I heard you dropped out of college in your junior year. And that you were the one who came between Rhoslyn and Cormac!”
“Tsk, tsk. You really are something else, Niamh,” Blaire sneered.
“You’ve only been here three days, and you’ve already managed to seduce Mr. Bragg!”
Niamh opened her mouth to defend herself, but Jareth’s voice exploded through the room. “Blaire, get out of my office! I want you to clear out your desk and be out of Jareth Media within the half-hour. Otherwise, don’t blame me when I have security throw you out.”
It was the first time Niamh had seen Jareth this furious. It was genuinely frightening. She’d heard the rumors around the office—that when Jareth Bragg lost his temper, the whole building shook. Now she was seeing it firsthand.
If he was this harsh with a woman, she couldn’t imagine how he treated men.
