I Owe the Tyrant Four Little Heirs novel Chapter 63

“One more thing, Mr. Bragg—”

Niamh thought about her part-time job at seven in the evening and wanted to ask if she could avoid working overtime.

“Niamh, are you ever going to stop?” Jareth cut her off as soon as she said his name.

Steeling herself, she pushed on. “Mr. Bragg, with this secretarial job… can I get out of working overtime?”

Jareth’s eyes snapped open, his gaze as sharp as a blade.

“Niamh, do you have any idea what you’re saying?” he asked, his voice dangerously low. Everyone in the company said she was smart, but he was beginning to think she was an idiot.

“Yes, yes, of course I do,” Niamh said, forcing a placating smile. She knew her request was more than a little unreasonable.

“Mr. Bragg, you know I’m very poor,” she continued.

“What does your poverty have to do with me?” he snapped.

Niamh gritted her teeth and forged ahead. “Well, I have another part-time job from seven to nine in the evening. So, could you maybe make an exception and let me skip overtime?”

“No.”

That did it. Niamh’s own temper flared. “Fine! If you can’t make an exception, then I’d rather go back to cleaning floors!”

“Niamh!” Jareth was truly furious now. He’d never met such a foolish woman.

Niamh couldn’t stop herself from shouting back, “I’m just trying to earn more money so I can pay back my debt to you sooner! Mr. Bragg, please, just this once!”

Jareth took a deep breath, visibly forcing his anger down. “If I’m working late, one of my three secretaries has to stay. You can decide among yourselves who it will be.”

“So—”

“Niamh, if you say one more word, I swear I will kick you out of this office myself.”
