I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 130

“Steven, are you really willing to debase yourself like this for Verna? You’re so considerate, so gentle with her. You’re a rich man. Can’t you just get another room? If they’re out of suites, book a regular one. If you can’t bear for your precious beauty to stay somewhere so modest, then you can sleep there yourself. What’s the point of crowding in here with me?”

I had guessed he would let them stay if Verna asked, but that was his choice, his heroic deed. Why did he have to drag me into it?

“I asked. There are no other rooms,” he said, a hint of weariness in his eyes. His voice was low and raspy. “Are you still angry about what happened? You were the one hitting people.”

I understood his meaning: I had been the aggressive one, I had won, so I should let it go. My anger usually faded as quickly as it came, and after the satisfaction of the fight, the fire had mostly gone out. But seeing his placating expression, I couldn’t resist a smirk as I cut a piece of steak and put it in my mouth.

“So? Are you going to lecture me again? Tell me I shouldn’t have hit anyone, especially not your precious Verna?”

Steven’s face was a blank slate. He said nothing.

I continued eating, brushing a stray curl from my face, my smile dripping with sarcasm. “Steven, no sane person would travel thousands of miles to meddle in someone else’s life. No sane person would hurt their own wife for someone else. Unless, of course, that person is incredibly important to you. Important enough for you to risk your own safety, important enough for you to abandon your marriage.”

His face contorted into a dark scowl. “Zephyra, say that one more time.”

Fine. I wasn’t afraid of him. In fact, I hoped I would provoke him. I met his gaze and enunciated each word clearly. “I want a divorce. I can’t stand another day of this humiliating life.”

“I brought the divorce papers with me. If you’re any kind of man, you’ll sign them now. As soon as this business deal is done, we’ll go straight to the registrar’s office the moment we land, get the stamp, and get our divorce certificates—”
