I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra) novel Chapter 5

“As for her,” he continued, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous growl, “stay away from her. If I find out you’ve laid a hand on her, I guarantee your life will become a living hell.”

His words struck me like a physical blow. In his mind, I had always been a jealous, malicious shrew.

I stared at his grimly handsome face, unable to suppress a cold, mocking laugh. “It seems you have a problem not just with your ears, but with your brain as well. If I wanted to hurt her, do you really think I’d be foolish enough to announce it to you first?”

“I’m done arguing with you. I don’t have the energy. I’m simply informing you that I am divorcing you. I’ll explain everything to Grandpa so you won’t be blamed. Think about it.”

With that, I pushed his hand away and stormed upstairs, leaving the dirty dishes on the table.

A moment later, the sound of a slamming door echoed from downstairs. Steven was gone.

I let out a long sigh. Even with the knowledge of a past life, his words still stung.

Thankfully, it was just a sting, not the heart-wrenching agony I used to feel.

I took my medication and lay down, trying to process everything, when my phone suddenly rang.

Glancing at the caller ID, I saw it was Mary. I bit my lip and answered. “Hello?”

A booming voice immediately filled the line. “Zephyra, have you been taking all the medicines and remedies I sent you?”

My eyes drifted to a corner of the room where a pile of unopened boxes lay. “Yes,” I lied smoothly, “I’m almost finished with all of them.”

Mrs. Lancaster sounded pleased. “So? Any news? Are you showing any signs of pregnancy yet?”

I felt a familiar wave of exhaustion. For a year, Steven’s mother had been relentlessly pressuring me to get pregnant.

Now, on the verge of a divorce, I wanted to avoid any more drama.

“Mom, having a child is a matter of fate. If it’s not meant to be, we can’t force it.”

“We’ve been married for a year, and I’m still a virgin! Let's just say he's a wet noodle. He’s useless! How am I supposed to get pregnant?”

“Or maybe I should go get pregnant by someone else? I’d have the baby, but would you dare to claim it as a Lancaster?”

There was a stunned silence on the other end of the line. Mrs. Lancaster seemed so shocked that I would talk back that she could barely form a sentence.

“You… you’re vulgar! So, you can’t get pregnant, and now you’ve learned to talk back!”

I laughed coldly. It was like talking to a brick wall.

“I told you, your son can’t perform.”

“Instead of wasting your breath yelling at me and forcing medicine down my throat, why don’t you take your precious son to a doctor for a check-up? And while you’re at it, get your own head examined!”

With that, I hung up, switched off my phone, and flopped onto the bed, rolling around in a fit of pure, unadulterated glee.
