I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 11

Ira’s Pov

Did I survive the beating? I think I can feel my heart beating which wouldn’t happen if I were dead. I also can hear voices. “It’s a weak creature, the wounds will definitely take time to heal,” I hear an unfamiliar female voice say. “Why would you surrender your earnings to save an envious human anyway?”

“She is not an ordinary human,” the familiar voice of the assistant of the angel kings answers and the person scoffs.

He is the only reason I am alive. He literally demanded to have his life taken in place of mine. Perhaps if I keep my eyes closed long enough, I might find out the dumb reason why he saved me.

“You could have asked the angel kings for help in saving our pack from Vandor’s slavery. They would have lend you half of their army as a reward for your loyalty and impeccable service. But you chose to save this thing instead,” the female voice berates.

I would be disappointed in his choices as well if I were in her. Who would have thought that the respected assistant of the angel kings comes from Havenstone, an enslaved pack?

“The angel kings will never agree to fight a war that isn’t their’s. Not until they can be sure that rogue dragons will not attack their kingdom again,” he answers.

“Then now is the time to ask them since they are marrying Princess Andria. Drag this human back to them and demand for their help in freeing our pack,” the female voice urges.

“No. She is more important than anyone I know,” the assistant of the angel kings replies in a firm voice.

“What? How exactly can this thing be important?” his counterpart hysterically demands.

I am eager to hear everything will pretending to be still unconscious, but I cannot hold in a cough forever. It finally bursts out through my mouth, startling the other occupants of the room.

I crack my eyes open right on time to see Lior rushing to wooden seat next to a bed I am laying. It hurts to turn my neck and I can barely see the whole of him.

“You’re back to life!” he says with a gentle smile. “How are you feeling?”

“I… can’t move my neck,” I stutter in a voice so hoarse that I doubt it’s mine.

“The wounds and swells will soon heal. Linda is a good doctor. And I got her all the best herbs,” he replies, gesturing back at his counterpart who is out of sight as I cannot turn my neck just to look at her.

Luckily she strides forward until I can see the upper part of her body. She is young and beautiful. With a smooth skin and grey eyes that seem to judge.

“I will be honest, I would rather he take you back. We have no use for envious humans,” she states.

“Shut up Linda! You have no idea what really happened,” the assistant of the angel kings snaps.

She shakes her head and steps back again with a frown. Is she really the one who has been treating my wounds? No wonder I feel like I am half dead.

The young lady steps closer and hugs him, pecking his face until he pulls away.

“So what do we do with her?” she asks.

“Just nurse her back to health. I will pay you enough for the job,” he dismissively answers.

“You do not have to pay me. I love being in your house,” she replies with a seductive smile.

Lior no longer seems to be listening to her as he reaches for my hand and kisses the back of it. His other hand comes up to rest on my forehead.

“Let me know if you need anything. I demanded the payment for your performance from your mates. You can have it as soon as you’re well,” he says.

I cannot resist a smile even though it might upset my doctor who clearly has a crush on the man holding my hand. At least now I have hope of resuming the search for my father after my wounds heal. I also will be alive to watch this kingdom get destroyed by rogue dragons the next time they attack. My mates will be shocked to learn that their beloved princess bears no power that can save their kingdom. I wonder if they will then regret all the pain they have caused me. I want to see their faces when they do.

I am sure that my savior also wants something from me. Perhaps my help in freeing the members of their enslaved pack.
