Ira’s Pov
I keep my eyes closed and try to think of Lior, in a nice place far away from this kingdom. If we had escaped we would be in that place together, waiting for the right time to resume the search for my father. I have never desired the love of a man, because I never thought there was one as good as my father until Lior stood up for me when no other man ever has. I understand why Linda would go to any lengths to make sure that he marries her and no one else. He has a kind heart, which is a rare thing. I wonder why I wasn’t mated to him instead.
If my ex-mates won’t kill me immediately after we get to their palace, I need a plan to escape. They cannot use my blood to tame dragons without having a witch cast a spell that would grant them the power in my blood. I imagine they will want to keep me alive until the witch arrives. Since Princess Andria’s family already used my mother’s blood to tame her dragon, there is no doubt that they have already summoned her father’s witch to come cast the same spell when they drain my blood.
I need to figure out a way to escape before their witch arrives. I cannot just depend on Lior who I doubt will get a chance to save me soon enough. I need my own plan.
“We haven’t told our servants or soldiers about your gift of controlling dragons. It is not safe for an except us to know as they will desire your blood. We must keep it a secret for a while. So please don’t tell,” Angel Ronen says.
So no one knows the real reason they will be killing me. And no one would believe me if I told them such a thing. Guess it’s already their secret unless Lior or Linda decides to tell.
But there is still hope that I might escape before they drain my blood. After the first dragon attack, their soldiers took me back into the room that they used to lock me up. A soldier dressed in armor surprisingly showed up in the servants quarters seeking to meet one of the young servants who he was courting. As they talked in my presence I learned that the soldier had used a secret entrance to into the palace. And that it was illegal for knights to walk into palace unless one was stationed as guard within the gates.
The fact that he was there against the rules of the palace means that the servants know a secret way in and out of the palace, which I can use to escape if I learn where it is.
Of course they won’t just tell me. They were confident to speak in my presence then because they knew that I had no chance of becoming their queen and that the angel kings wouldn’t listen to me even if I decided to report them.
Assuming I won’t be locked up in a cell, I might find out more about the secret entrance and hopefully use it to escape the palace. Of course the servants will not tell me. I can only eavesdrop on their conversations. If they will still be confident enough to speak in my presence.
It’s a good thing that they do not know that I have the power to command dragons as they would think that I am of value to their kings now. That would make them hesitant to speak their secrets in my presence and I can’t have that. I must make sure that they can feel free to disregard my presence. That they find me as useless and lost as they did then. I will make myself seem as valueless and insane as their mighty kings made everyone believe I am.
“You should know that we loved your voice when you sang during our ceremony. It was unexpectedly mesmerizing,” King Ronen says.
I remember he was the one that seemed the least interest in watching my performance as he was busy flirting with their beloved queen. I am not an idiot to believe that he listened to my voice.
My heart pounds harder as the carriage rolls to a stop outside the main palace. The other carriages have stopped far away. Lior and the rest of the escort steps out. I notice his anxious look as he watches this carriage.
“We are home, dear. Come with us,” Angel Adon says, grabbing my hand again and pulling back to my feet. “A queen keeps her head high,” he advises as they pull me out of the carriage.
Servants and guards halt to stare at us. I lower my head. Because I plan on doinh the opposite of what the angel kings ask of me. Their servants needs to be convinced that I still hold no value. That I am still a crazy, useless human.
“It’s that dirty human again. Why is she back here? Didn’t the angel kings warn that she would be hanged?” I hear one of the servants ask.
“Maybe Lior kicked it out. It must have beggged the angel kings for shelter,” another replies.
Glad to hear that they still despise me. My plan might work.
“She hasn’t talked to us since entering our carriage. Perhaps we should allow her to rest first,” Ronen informs.
Tiras seems unsurprised even as he pecks the back of our mate’s hand while she gazes away.
“Your majesties,” the voice of Lior’s obsessed admirer comes from behind. She bows deeply when we look back at her.
“Lior seeks your forgiveness for his acts of disloyalty. He also thanks you for letting him keep his job as your assistant,” she excitedly reports.
A look of disappointment takes over our mate’s face. I bet she was expecting better from the man who saved her life once. It must not be easy to take in so many betrayals. It clearly breaks her heart and I wish I can take away the pain that she is now choosing to hide.
“Let him know that he is to stay away from Ira. We will not forgive his next mistake no matter what you offer,” Tiras firmly states.
“Thank you, your majesty. I will let him know,” the lady bows again before running back to her crush who is still staring in this direction.
“I have servants waiting to take good care of her. But it would be better if our doctor checks her first, make sure she isn’t in any kind of pain,” Tiras says before turning to lead the way inside.
