I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 39

Ira’s Pov

I am not a coward, but my hands shake as we navigate the roads and streets of King Ademon’s Kingdom on horseback. I was aware that they loathe humans, but I never imagined that they would have my kind chained like cattle and working like donkeys under supervision of fat guards beating them with whips. It’s a terrifying sight as some of the starved slaves seem on the verge of death. A part of me is furious that I cannot do anything to save them right now.

I am on a quest to save my father and I cannot risk ruining my disguise. Besides there are dragons available to command.

The fact that the angel kings saw it fit to marry the Princess of this kingdom says a lot about their love for wickedness. Now King Ademon is richer than before because of their great tribute. I know they intend to attack and burn everything, but will they save the human slaves when they too resent humans?

“I too long to free the people of my pack,” Lior says while watching my expression. “My kind can be monsters at heart. But not everyone. My parents taught me that compassion is the bigger form of courage than cruelty will ever be,” he adds.

“My parents taught me that too. They made me this wonderful man I have always been,” Thumas claims.

He has been narrating stories of his past treasure quests throughout our journey and I couldn’t help noticing that he adds a fistful of salt. Otherwise he would be the world’s best knight and I am sure he isn’t. He has traveled to many strange lands however. Which is why I am confident that he knows where he is taking us.

“Is there anything else you have done with your blood apart from controlling dragons, Ira?” he asks.

“What else can it possibly do?” Lior questions.

“There is an ancient prophecy. It claims that the last child of the Levitt family shall have a blood so pure that it can break any curse and awaken a dead person’s spirit. The devious witch would be seeking it if she knew who you are,” Thumas replies.

Wow! So in other words… my blood is a treasure. How do I know that he is not on a quest to get it? I cannot think of many treasures that can do the mysterious things he just listed. Do you believe that someone as unattractive as me would have such a precious liquid in her veins? I am just as doubtful. The prophecy could be a myth, one that puts my life on constant danger. “Is that the reason you called me the Princess of Levitts? Because you believe that my blood is better than that of my dead relatives?” I question.

“The prophecy calls you that, not me,” Thumas answers.

I am still in the buggy men’s clothing that Thumas let me wear. So I am looking like his younger brother.

“These are just my friends. They now share a passion in hunting treasures after seeing my fortunes. I figured they might be useful servants whilst they learn some skill,” Thumas lies.

The man nods his head in understanding. “Why do you choose to travel this accursed kingdom at dusk? Have you been away for so long that you haven’t you heard what happens at nights?” he asks.

We all share confused glances. “What happens at night?” Lior asks.
