I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 40

Ira’s Pov

“We believe that the devious witch put a spell on the land. Werewolves become extremely vicious at night, mauling humans and even attacking their own kind. It is no longer safe to travel at night,” our big host says.

He brought us to his home, to his mate and her sister who are both in the kitchen. I am doing my best to act like a man convincingly. Honestly I wish someone gave me tips before having to do it. Sitting with my legs apart isn’t one of my troubles though. I didn’t lie when I said that I am not a graceful woman. Great posture has never been one of my best talents. I sit and walk with comfort like a man. That’s not enough to be convincingly male though. So I have been pretending to be mute because my voice isn’t thick enough.

“Why would the witch do that?” Lior questions.

“I do not know. Some think that she now controls this kingdom through our bewitched king,” Garringson answers.

So the witch has bewitched king Ademon? Why would she need to do that to a wicked man whose visions fully align with hers? Or is it the people of this Kingdom who have a had time believing that their king is a monster?

“I have never seen a boy so pretty before. What’s is his name?” Garringson asks while pointing a finger at me.

I thought I was ugly even as a man. But it sounds like I had judged myself too harshly.

“He is Callus, a servant but not for the angel kings,” Thumas lies. “He has a sharp mind and the courage of a great warrior. Nothing would stop him from becoming a successful treasure hunter.”

Is that a compliment? If it is my heart is flattered. Wisdom and bravery are very useful virtues unlike beauty.

“No man should have beauty, wisdom, courage and wealth all at the same time. It would make the rest of us seem like waste,” Garrison comments with a chuckle, his gaze shifting from me to Lior and back.

His young mate and sister in-law enter the room with drinks and pieces of sliced fruits. They set the tray of fruits at the centre of the table before proceeding to serve us drinks. I notice his sister in-law smiling seductively at Lior as she hands him his cup of herbal tea whilst standing so close to him that her hip presses against his arm.

“That’s surprising to hear. I never imagined you as a knight. Personally I was feeling honored to have welcome the famous assistant of the angel kings in my house. He does look like the warrior people tell stories about,” Garingson says and the cup of tea nearly slips out of my grasp.

He knew who Lior is all along? His mate and her sister doesn’t look surprised either so I am guessing that they too knew. No wonder the sister was outrightly flirting with Lior.

“Why would you possibly think that this man is the assistant of the angel kings? You’re being unusually funny even though I know it’s not intended,” Thumas manages to scoff.

“I have too been traveling, my friend. I know well who the man is. Did you really think I am that easy to fool? You did not only bring the most famous knight to my home, but also the Princess of Levitts herself,” the man answers with a smirk.
