Ira’s Pov
Stupid Thumas!
He said he knew the man, yet now it seems that we might have been hosted by the witch’s spies. How could they even know me unless they have been to Lordland? I was never this famous before the angel kings chose to humiliate me in front of a multitude during their wedding.
“I should have noticed that you have changed when you offered to host us. You were never that generous,” Thumas mutters in anger.
“You mean that you thought that I am a fool that would not recognise a treasure when he sees one,” Garringson laughs.
“You are still a fool to think that you can kidnap us. We have the best warrior of Lordsland with us,” Thumas replies, glancing at Lior.
But Lior has his gaze cast downwards strangely, not listening to us or anyone.
“Lior?” I call anxiously, no longer bothering to hide my voice.
He looks up and the sight of his glowing red eyes makes me gasp out loud.
“They put a spell in his tea!” Thumas screams, grabbing my hand. “We must go!”
“Seize them!” Garringson screams at his mate and her sister who move forward instantly, shifting into their wolf forms.
“Lior!” I scream, but he too starts to shift into his beast form and growls menacingly at me.
“Let’s run!” Thumas screams.
But Garringson’s mate seizes him by the throat while her sister lunges at me. I toss the hot coffee at her face, making her wolf howl in pain.
Thumas shifts into his wolf form to fight Garringson’s mate. Meanwhile Garringson himself shifts and rushes towards me, with his now furious sister in-law right behind.
Surely they must know they shouldn’t kill me. I am sure the devious witch would prefer me alive.
The door behind us bursts open suddenly. The two werewolves lounging at me catch fire, the hot flames engulfing their entire bodies. They turn while howling in pain, rolls on the floor to put off the flames while howling desperately. The flames fail to go off. They flee the room while still burning.
I look back to see three big men in dark cloaks and walk in through the open door. How did they cause the werewolves catch fire unless they are… the angel kings!
No, they wouldn’t look so shabby. Nor would they be in a wretched place like this.
“Kill this one too!” Thumas yells at them after shifting back to his human form. Garringson’s mate lunges at the three men and one cuts off her wolf’s head effortlessly with his shimmering silver blade. The body and head falls apart.
Werewolves do not carry silver blades, and no human possesses such incredible strength. The possibilities of them being the angel kings are rising and I am more terrified now than when Garringson and his sister in-law were charging at me.
“I could have beaten her singlehandedly, but thank you, your majesties!” Thumas says, bowing deeply and smiling at the men.
I should run, with Lior of course. But he has fully shifted into his wolf form and looking quite frightening. Whatever our wicked hosts put in his tea is indeed controlling his mind, making him act stupid. I wish I read a magic book before sneaking into this kingdom. How did I even convince myself that we can beat the devious witch?
“I need you to shift back right now! We will die if you don’t,” I scream at Lior, hoping that there is still a part of him that hasn’t been corrupted by the poison. But he charges at me, fiercely.
A wall of fire suddenly appears in front of me, making Lior’s angry wolf halt.
“I am not a spy of the devious witch… your majesty. I seek… revenge against her for… for killing my brother,” he stutters and angel Adon finally lowers the sword.
“Witchelms is a dangerous place. You cannot take to the witch the very thing she wants,” King Ronen says while striding forward to stand beside his brother Tiras. “We will rescue your father and bring him back to you if you return to the palace.”
I could just shake my head, but I choose to spit in his face.
“You want his blood as well. I am not as foolish as your queen. If you do not leave us alone I will scream for the people of this kingdom to know that the angel kings are here.” I threaten.
“I am afraid that the people of this kingdom would be interested in you more,” Thumas disagrees. “I would rather we settle our differences a little far from here. The witch’s spies have increased significantly.”
There is no place safe for me as long as these angels are close. So there is no point in leaving here with them.
“I am not going back to their stinking palace full of minions to wait for the day they will drain my blood. Neither am I letting them kill Lior,” I state.
The room falls silent for a brief moment, except for the growling of Lior’s wolf behind me. The wall of fire is keeping him from charging again and I am inwardly thankful.
Angel Ronen takes one slow step closer. I do not move because the wall of fire is right behind.
“We regret not getting rid of our mean and disrespectful servants. We also failed to understand your pain until now. But I swear we are honest about making it all up to you. And we will start with rescuing your father,” he says.
“I already told you, I am not as stupid as your Queen’s,” I reply.
