I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 42

Ira’s Pov

“Why would you assume that our goal is murdering you when killing the witch and saving your father would rid us of dragon attacks permanently?” King Tiras questions. “Murdering you would only ensure that only the witch has the power to control dragons for a longer time.”

I hate to accept that his argument makes sense, but I hate them. If killing the witch is their priority, what are they doing here? They lost the way?

“Then you can go kill the witch and leave us alone,” I say.

“The witches spies will find you even before we get to her. This isn’t all about controlling dragons or our kingdom. I care about your safety. You do not have to return to the palace, Ymyou can come with us.” King Ronen says.

“We won’t kill your friend either, as long as he doesn’t attack anyone,” King Adon adds, gesturing at Lior’s aggressive wolf. “That’s like saying you have a reason to kill him,” I scoff. “I am not going anywhere with you.”

Thumas rushes forward quickly and halts between me and the angels. “Dear, as someone who has been to the witchelms and seen the powers of the devious witch I advice that we go with them. Alone we might never succeed in rescuing your father,” he surprisingly sides with them. “Besides we cannot free your friend from the spell without their help,” he adds.

“What is needed to free him?” I question.

“A drop of your blood. He must taste it for the spell to be broken,” Thomas answers.

I am curious to know how he knows so much. But there is no time for that.

“Who said her blood can break spells?” King Tiras questions.

Does he really have to know that now? Of course Thumas thinks he should. I have to wait impatiently as he turns and explains all he knows about the ancient prophecy in great detail, sounding like an excited child desperate for their parent’s approval. I wonder if he cares about Lior at all.

“Sounds like there is a reason the witch desperately wants her blood. She can conquer all kingdoms with such great power,” Tiras says.

They also can do the same. In fact they are as dangerous as the witch. Only difference is that she is the one holding my father captive now.

“How do you know of this prophecy?” King Adon asks.

“I have been investigating the witch for a long time and hunting treasures across all lands for even longer. I know a lot, your majesty,” Thumas answers.

Am I delusional to think that I might be another huge treasure he was hunting? Maybe if I help Lior, we can figure things out together.

“I will go with you if you help me free your assistant from the spell,” I say.

It’s not a promise I intend to keep. They have hurt and lied to me a million times. Why can’t I do it just once?

“Good decision. We promise no harm will come your way,” King Ronen assures after sighing in relief.

I too wish it were. He now has to face the angel kings with a clear mind. I hope he has the courage to stand by the decisions we made. None was out of selfishness.

“You attacked our mate after stealing her from our palace and bringing her to spies of the witch” Angel Adon informs in an angry tone before pulling out his sword roughly from Lior’s shoulder.

The knight grunts in pain, bit his wound immediately heals and he stands, looking extremely embarrassed.

“I am… so sorry! That was a huge mistake that I should never have made, your majesties. Clearly I… was incapable of protecting her,” he stutters the apology.

So he regrets helping me leave the palace and making it here on a quest to save my father? All because things didn’t go as smoothly as we had hoped. Did the spell consume his courage?

“Our hosts poisoned the tea you took. Nothing that has happened is your fault,” I comfort.

But he shakes his head. “I brought you out here without knowing for sure that I can protect you, Ira. You too should be upset. I should have requested help from our kings,” he replies.

You do not need to look at my face to know that I am annoyed. He is once again acting like he regrets his decisions and wishes to be a good servant of the kings even though they must also have run out of forgiveness for his acts of disloyalty.
