I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 47

Ira’s Pov

I do not feel so confident that they can easily kill the devious witch anymore, especially inside her territory. She is their aunt, they might even get along.

“Lysandra wants your blood first more than anything. In fact she stands no chance at taking our kingdom without it,” the angel reminds. “We should help each other. She may be our aunt but still a witch who has been killing your family and destroying our kingdom.”

“Right. But you cannot enter her territory with your powers either. How willl you protect me?” I question.

Thomas loudly clears his throat as if to seek our attention.

“I will help you out if you let me live, your majesties,” he says.

“Like you were going to help me and Lior?” I scoff.

He shakes his head as if to deny that he is an untrustworthy, wicked traitor.

“If I had met you before Lysandra sent me I would have preferred being your protector instead. You’re an incredibly brave human,” he says.

“Shut up! You’re only alive because we do not want the smell of a dead corpse with us until morning,” King Ronen warns.

“I deserve the punishment, but who will guide you through the traps of witchelms? I know the safest routes, your majesties,” he pleads.

“Unfortunately for you we do not want more lies,” King Ronen replies.

“We can make sure that he only tells the truth from now on,” Lior speaks, his voice regaining confidence. “Have any of you heard about Sincarions?” he asks.

I have heard of them even though I have never met one. Sincarions are a unique tribe of werewolves who can detect lies and truth at will. They are extremely rare. Probably not even real.

“Finding one can help us. But we might have to involve your battered queen as only she might know where in her father’s kingdom the last of sincarions might be found, your majesties,” Lior adds.

The angel kings glance at each other in consideration. I think it’s a good idea to get someone who can at least protect us from further lies and schemes of the witch and her spies. I also want to make sure that the angel kings aren’t lying to me. That deep inside they do not intend to make peace with their aunt and drain my blood.

“I think he is right. Wee need a sincarion before setting foot into your aunt’s territory,” I say in hope of attracting their support.

“Sure, we can get Andria out of the cage tomorrow morning,” King Ronen says. “Tonight we must let Ira rest and take her medicine. The journey just got longer,” he adds.

Everyone nods in agreement, especially Thumas who seems extremely relieved at the prospect of living a few more hours. “There is lots of flour, oil and fruits in the kitchen. Let me fix you something to eat, your majesties,” he requests.

“No one wants to eat anything made by you. There is also nothing you can do that can persuade us to spare your life. We made a promise to your mother and we intend to keep it,” King Tiras coldly replies.

The traitor falls quiet. Of course it’s wiser not to irritate the angel kings more or they will forget his importance and cut his neck.

“I will make the bread. I always do it for myself and Lior,” Linda offers.

“I will be highly grateful if you make something good enough for us all,” Lior says.

Linda delightfully pecks his lips and literally skips like a child across the room, placing the herbs on the small table before continuing towards the kitchen. I bet she will do her best to please him. That’s my fear. Because she might ruin the bread while trying too hard to be his best cook. He rarely gives her opportunities to please him.

“I will get ropes to tie up the traitor for Ira’s safety. If you intend to keep him in here throughout the night, your majesties,” Lior says.

King Ronen gestures at him to go ahead and he leaves the room in search of ropes.

I sit back down and King Tiras settles by my side. King Adon roughly withdraws his silver blade out of Thumas’s thigh and returns to his spot as well. Thumas fights to withhold his moans as the gaping wound slowly heals.

“We have never met our aunt, and neither of our parents really talked about her. You can feel assured that she is as much our enemy as she is yours,” King Adon tells.

I shrug my shoulders. “I would rather keep an open mind. That way I won’t be disappointed by whatever you choose to do,” I reply.

“You’re just too afraid to trust again, we understand. We only ask that you stick with us for the sake of your safety,” King Tiras says.

I nod, afraid to verbally accept their assurances when I know they don’t really care about me.

Lior returns with a lengthy silver chain that has stains of dry blood. “I found this in your carriage and thought that we can use it on him since your queen is locked in a cage,” he explains to the angel kings.

It must be the chain that they used to restrain their queen. Why do I feel pity for her even after all she did to harm me? I will however never forget the fact that my mother’s blood was used to tame her dragon and how she boasted of her skill in controlling it.

“You do not have to restrain me. I swear on my mother’s grave that I will not cause any more trouble. In fact I won’t move an inch throughout the night,” Thumas begs.

“One more word and we will close your mouth with my sword,” King Ronen impatiently warns.

Thumas grudgingly bites on his lips as Lior chains his hands to his body. I wonder if there are indeed angry ghosts that he spoke about within the house. I am worried of anything after knowing that he is the witch’s spy. Did his brother’s ghost come back to haunt him?

Thumas sleeps soundly on the floor despite the silver chain restraining his hands and body. He must be confident that we will choose to keep him alive for information and not kill him like his mother demanded.

I make my way out of the room and halt under the open parlour. It’s barely daytime as the night’s darkness still lingers. Not even the birds are chirping. That’s why the sound of hushed voices closeby makes my heart race. Who would be out here at this hour? It’s not like everyone is stressed out like me.

The voices do not sound like they are getting closer. So I relax a little bit and listen.

“You put that thing on to withhold our mate bond? Why? I have been nothing but kind to you!” Linda’s desperate voice cries.

“I am not ready for mate bonds, Linda. I withheld ours because I didn’t want to reject you outrightly,” Lior’s unapologetic voice answers.

He withheld their mate bond?! How does one even do that? All this time I thought I knew him. Turns out he has more secrets than an entire kingdom.

All this time he had a mate bond with Linda and only chose to manipulate her attraction towards him.

“You thought of rejecting me? After all we have been through?” Linda cries.

“Well, you are not exactly what I was hoping for,” he replies. “I could not just accept you when you’re not anything like the woman of my dreams,” he brutally adds.

I thought that I was the only one despised by my mates, but now I feel pity for Linda. She has done everything to earn his admiration yet he sounds annoyed while telling her he doesn’t want her. Only difference is that he didn’t hurt her physically like my mates did.

“I can be the woman of your dreams. Just tell me what it is you desire. Take off that magic bracelet and I will be her,” Linda pleads.

I had no idea there are magic bracelets used to withhold matebonds. He must have been desperate to do so to have found one.

“You can never be like Ira. She doesn’t try to be impressive yet she is. Her pure heart, courage and wisdom doesn’t need to be faked,” Lior utters the dumbfounding reply.

I never thought I am all that. I knew he has feelings for me but never thought he considers me that special. Almost as much as the angel kings admired their evil Queen at first.

“Ira is the mate of the angel kings. You think you can compete with them just because they hurt her once?” Linda questions. “They did more than that. And who knows how this quest will end?” Lior answers. “Stick around though. If I do not get Ira I will settle for you,” he adds then I hear his footsteps as he walks away from her.

I hate that she will still do her best to impress him. He might claim that I am what he desires but I hate what has done and said to her.
