Ira’s Pov
Linda bursts back into the room with bottles of herbs and nearly drops them at the sight of the chaos unfolding.
“What’s going on?” she ask in a worried voice. Only Lior and I look back at her as the angel Kings gather around a trembling Thumas.
“It turns out that our friend is a spy of the witch. I made a huge mistake,” Lior answers in a ruefully.
I do not blame him. He wanted to save my father unlike everyone else in this room.
“I am so sorry dear. You could not have known,” Linda comforts.
My attention shifts back to Thumas after hearing his loud scream. King Ronen has his sword thrust deep into the traitor’s thigh. Thumas wails in pain while clasping his injured leg.
“Be quiet!” angel Tiras snaps. “We must make sure you won’t lie to us too. If you do the next stab will go straight into your heart. Or would you prefer being set on fire?”
Thumas shakes his head vigorously. “I won’t… lie again. I swear on my brother’s grave!” he stutters.
“Don’t you dare mention him you hideous monster!” his mother yells.
Angel Ronen twists the silver sword in his thigh and he shrieks loud again.
“Sorry! Please… let me tell you everything!” he shouts, huffing in pain.
I thought that they were cruel to me and their queen, but it appears that they inflict unbearable pain on anyone that upsets them.
Adon gestures at his brother to stop before turning his attention to Thumas’s vengeful mother.
“You should leave. I promise we will kill him for you,” he says.
“I do not know what your quarrel is with him, but I need to make sure that he dies for the safety of the rest of my family,” she replies.
She must be convinced that he is a monster that is incapable of change. Mothers don’t just hate that much. He must have always been unapologetically evil. I too would want to protect my family from him.
“We understand,” Lior steps forward and holds her hand. “But we won’t be giving him a quick death. The torture will be hard to watch. It would be better if you leave and come collect the body in the morning,” he urges.
Thumas stares up with an horrified face as his mother nods and turns to leave.
“Once you kill him you should burn his body so that the witch won’t start a hunt for those who killed her best spy. Make sure no one can recognise his body,” she advises in a voice devoid of emotion.
Everyone except her son nods and she continues to exit the room. Linda locks the door after she is gone.
“You… have every right to hate me just like my mother. But you know nothing of the witchelms. You won’t find anyone else to guide you. If you spare my life now I will forever be most loyal to you,” Thumas pleads.
I wouldn’t trust him. He killed his own brother for the witch’s gold. His promises mean nothing.
“Your lies are annoying,” King Adon says before pushing his silver sword straight into the right side of Thumas’s chest.
The traitor let’s out another scream. Apparently he worries a lot about his own life despite the many he has betrayed. The angel didn’t stab his wicked heart, so he will live, for now because I too wish to kill him. He grunts again in pain as King Adon pulls out the sword.
It’s not the sweet gossip I expected. The woman sounds crazy. No wonder King Osmund didn’t want her. She is a bitter lunatic. I am sure he wouldn’t want her now either even if she succeeds in bringing his soul back to life.
I cannot believe that selfish Thumas was taking me to her enchanted territory so she can have my blood. He deserves to die a more painful death than his brother. I will cut his head off myself if I have to. Still I need to know more about witchelms so I can save my father.
“Ending our reign would be harder than your witch thinks,” King Tiras scoffs at Thumas’s claim.
“You do not understand, your majesty. If she gets Ira’s blood she also plans to use it to free the dark angel from the temple of shadows,” Thumas argues.
“The temple of shadows is a myth,” Lior reminds.
“No it isn’t. Where do you think Lysandra got her magic powers? Being rejected by her mate filled her with fury and hatred. It consumed her heart and lead her to seek magic powers from the dark angel in pursuit of revenge against her sister,” Thumas elaborates.
I have heard stories about the dark angel, but they are all assumed to be myths. He was imprisoned in the temple of shadows by his more powerful and benevolent brother after becoming unbearably wicked.
If the stories are true, the devious witch has really lost he mind to depend on a treacherous and evil being for magic powers. She ruined herself while on a quest to ruin her sister.
It’s scary to know that she needs my blood for any of her plans to work. My family never hurt her in any way, yet we have suffered her wickedness more than anyone else.
King Ronen turns away from the group and approaches me. “Don’t be afraid, we will protect you no matter what spells we encounter on the way,” he comforts.
“I am sure you would do it to avoid losing your kingdom to the Witch,” I reply.
