I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 52

Ira’s Pov

“She is such a clown!” Lior curses while still standing at the same spot.

Does he care about her at all? I may dislike Linda but it is because of her herbs that I am alive. She did her best to save me after my mates almost killed me to impress the princess they desired. So I turn and rush towards the sounds of her screams.

“No! Ira it’s not safe for you to…” Lior’s shout fades before reaching my ears as I run.

The forest is dense, but there are tiny paths that one has to squeeze through. Linda’s screams continue to guide me as I get closer. There is however no sight of her in front of me.

“Ira!” her voice calls. But it sounds like she is shouting from heaven.

I look up and finally see her, hanging up side down from a rope attached to a tall tree by one leg. She was caught by a trap? What happened to her werewolf agility?

She cannot reach the rope while facing downwards and she is too far up for someone like me to offer help. “I will go back get help!” I shout at her while turning back.

But Lior immediately emerges into the little clearing, with Thumas running behind like a true friend. Lior sighs in relief at the sight of me.

“You shouldn’t be running off alone. Don’t you think more of the witch’s spies might be around?” he strides forward and hugs me, asking nothing about his mate who was screaming for help. My mates were just as uncaring. Guess a person’s usefulness is all that matters to men. My life wouldn’t be different if it wasn’t for my Levitt blood.

I step back and point up at Linda. “Then we should hurry and get her down.”

Lior looks up and frowns. “What a mess,” he mutters.

“Honey, please get me down fast! There is a beehive up here!” Linda screams.

There is indeed a buzzing beehive on the branch above her. Whoever set the trap had a cruel mind. It would be safer if she quits screaming.

“I can climb up the tree and cut the rope, but she would fall and break bones,” Lior says.

“Unless we use something to catch her, mostly a large piece of fabric,” Thumas suggests.

Lior was right, I shouldn’t have ran around alone in a place like this. I didn’t even carry a weapon.

If I screamed Lior would hear, but would he get here in time?

“Do I know you?” I ask in a loud voice in hope that Lior might hear me by luck.

“Your concern over your friend made me feel assured that you’re not one of Lysandra’s stupid followers. Otherwise I would not have revealed my face,” he answers. “What is it that you and the kings of Lordlsand seek in these accursed lands?”

I relax after realising what he is. I once heard rumours that Sincarions have golden eyes that make them stand out in crowds even when they don’t mean to. They never escaped to that baren Island, did they? Instead they hide here and let everyone think they are on the Island.

“Are you a Sincarion?” I ask.

“I thought that was obvious,” he answers. “Why are the angel kings looking for us?”
