Ira’s POV
The inside of the tomb has a circular structure at the centre, almost as huge as the tomb itself. The structure has heavy doors locked with steel chains, like there are monsters inside.
“I do not think we should go there,” Linda says.
“You can turn back anytime you want,” King Adon says to her, already striding towards the heavy doors.
We join him and the bitter and scared girl still follows.
He and Tiras attempts breaking the chains. Not a single metal curves for a long time.
“They are locked with a spell,” Aruin notifies, pointing at symbols on the doors.
“We we must use Ira’s blood again?” Lior exclaims.
He worries about me even now. I am glad to know that I haven’t completely lost my best friend.
“The spell cannot be that strong. It will be a lot easier for her to give our Kings more strength instead,” Aruin replies. “How?” I ask.
“If you bring back your mate bond with them, it will strengthen them. All you have to do is say that you want it back, genuinely,” he answers.
Genuinely? Like I was ready to be their mate again? How come they didn’t feel weakened when I was being whipped in front of them and their queen? How come they felt strong in the company of their wicked queen?
“That isn’t a fair request considering all that she has been through,” Lior says.
“They can create a mate bond with me instead, I do not mind,” Linda offers.
She already has Lior and wants the Kings too? Besides, creating a fake mate bond can only be done through dark magic. We do not have a witch with us.
“Only a Levitt’s love can strengthen their powers,” Aruin corrects, gazing at me. “You must make the decision now as we do not have much time.”
Everyone waits for my decision. I struggle to fully convince my mind to forget my worries and give them the strength they need to break the doors. We have not been close long enough for me to develop complete trust of them.
There might never be time to know them better, but I need to rescue my father soon before Lysandra decides that he is no longer of use.
Only way I can genuinely accept the recreation of the mate bond is by focusing solemnly on their promise to help save my father. My heart is burdened by grudges and pains like Linda said. I am sure I can find a little space for extra love to take it’s seat until I findt my father.
“Okay. I welcome the recreation of the bond we once had in my heart,” I state.
I nod. There is no time to waste. I stride towards the tablet.
“Something is coming! Be ready!” Ronen warns, drawing his silver blade.
We got caught? I need to do this faster.
Aruin hands me a knife and I clench my teeth as I cut the skin of my finger just a little. The drops of blood fall on the tablet and immediately disappears, as if absorbed by the stone.
There is shift of the darkness inside the pit, swirling like water in a pot. Shouts and cries of ghosts fill the air. Why is it taking so long?
“We will step outside and wait for whatever is coming. You must stay here with my brother and wait for those spirits to be free. We need the trumpet,” King Tiras says, gesturing Lior and Aruin to join him and Ronen.
The team hurries out, leaving me in the company of King Adon, Linda and the ghosts in the pit.
The noises outside keep growing stronger. There is no secret that Lysandra discovered that we are here and sent something that can destroy us. Hopefully we will get the trumpet early enough. She must have freed Luminis using my blood by now. Distant sounds of growling beasts fill the air and the supernatural darkness in the tomb suddenly pulls back into the pit, leaving the place lit by tiny rays of sunlight finding their way in through the open doors and spaces on the walls of the tomb. Finally we are able to see with our eyes open.
