Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 463

Clive’s words made Amelia hesitate.

The kids were the only thing left tying them together. More than anything, that was what she cared about.

She thought it over for a moment, then nodded. “Okay. I’ll reach out to Andrew. You should bring your lawyer too, and we can—”

“Amelia.” Clive’s voice was quiet. “Let’s just meet. Just the two of us.”

Amelia frowned, about to say something, but Clive went on, “I mean, let’s not drag this into court and turn it into a mess for everyone to see. Timmy’s smart. He’ll find out what’s happening no matter what. If we can end this peacefully, we should try.”

She fell silent. “Custody isn’t a small thing. Are you sure you can speak for your dad?”

Back when she still loved Clive, she’d seen him through rose-colored glasses. Even then, she’d known the truth: the one who really called the shots in the Salmeron family was his father, Bailey.

Clive had never dared to go against Bailey. When they were married, every time work brought him into conflict with his dad, Amelia was always the one who stepped up. She knew he was weak, but she loved him so much she was willing to carry that burden for him.

But reality had given her a harsh wake-up call. Never wait around for a man to grow up. Some men never do.

Clive almost smiled, a little bitter, a little amused. “These days, my dad’s probably more afraid of you than ever.”

Amelia said nothing.

Clive got serious. “Just send me your address. I’ll come over now—”

“No,” she interrupted. “Let’s meet somewhere else.” She didn’t want him knowing where she lived anymore.

He paused, then said, “All right. How about Between the Clouds? You always liked the food there.”

Amelia didn’t respond right away.

Between the Clouds was a restaurant near Clive’s old college. It wasn’t far from where she lived now—about a half-hour drive.
