Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 472

Hospital Room

The nurses were gone, leaving the room quiet and heavy. Kristen lay curled on the bed, turning her face toward the wall, her whole body tense with hurt.

“Clive, you shouldn’t have saved me… If I was gone, you wouldn’t have to feel so torn all the time. You can’t let go of Amelia, so let me just get out of the way for you two.”

Clive’s head throbbed dully. He pressed his fingers to his temples, searching for the right words.

“Kristen, it’s not what you think. I just went to talk about custody for the kids, that’s all—”

“Couldn’t a lawyer handle that?” Kristen’s voice wavered, getting sharper. “Did you really have to see her yourself? And why are you still carrying her photo in your wallet? You’re divorced, Clive!”

Her words broke apart as she started to cry, tears spilling down her cheeks.

Clive didn’t know what to say. He knew he was at fault. He’d kept that picture without thinking much—when Amelia left, she’d made sure there was nothing left to remind him of her. She took what she could and burned the rest, leaving him with absolutely nothing.

Kristen wiped at her cheeks, voice shaky. “Fine, do whatever you want with the photo, okay?” Clive sat on the edge of the bed and gently brushed the tears from her face. “But promise me you’ll never do something this stupid again. Please. Promise me.”

He looked down at her, not so much feeling sorry for her as just tired—bone-deep tired and helpless.

Amelia would never have done this.

She never cried in front of him just to get her way. Even when things got really bad, Amelia would hide her tears so he wouldn’t worry.

Kristen grabbed onto him, burying her face in his chest.

“Clive, I knew you cared about me. I knew you loved me, right? Tell me I’m right.”

She clung to him, desperate, searching his face for anything she could hold on to.
