As soon as Hank finished talking, he walked straight out, with Clive trailing after him.

Now it was just Bianca and Kristen left in the hospital room.

“Silly girl, is it really worth putting yourself through all this?” Bianca’s eyes were full of worry and pain.

Kristen didn’t seem bothered at all. “We’ve come too far to back out now. No matter what it takes, I’m going to make sure Clive only has eyes for me.”

Bianca let out a cold laugh. “Relax. That little tramp Amelia actually thinks Mr. Baker’s going to protect her. She’s just asking for trouble.” Rolling her eyes, Bianca dug around in her purse and pulled out a small incense burner. The familiar scent started filling the room right away.

“The incense you brought tonight, did you use it on both kids?” Bianca sounded pretty pleased with herself. “With my special blend and those hypnosis tricks I came up with, you’ll be able to control them and they won’t even know it’s happening.”

Kristen nodded. “It worked great on Penny. She listened to everything I said and fell asleep immediately. But Timmy—he didn’t react as much.”

Bianca shrugged. “The stronger the will, the less effective this kind of hypnosis is. Timmy’s a smart one, but he’s still just five. Next time, I’ll just up the dose. After a few more times, he’ll be easy to handle.”

Kristen nodded again, then told her mom about Clive meeting up with Amelia that night—and how he still kept a photo of them together.

She gritted her teeth, voice full of hate. “Mom, I can’t stand it. As long as Amelia’s still breathing, I’ll never be at peace.”

Bianca’s face twisted with anger too. She couldn’t get over the way Amelia had humiliated her in front of all the Baker family’s guests. Just thinking about it made her blood boil.

She wouldn’t rest until Amelia was out of the picture for good.

“Just be patient for a couple more days,” Bianca said, her voice cold. “Once Mr. Baker realizes Amelia’s nothing but a fraud, nobody will care what happens to her. Levi’s already set everything up. All we need is the right moment, and she’ll be gone for good.”
